626 ES V6 error codes 28 and 41.. HELP!!

Hello to you all and than you for reading this. I hope to learn a lot from the collective knowedge here. Thanks in advance!!!

I have a 1993 V6 2.5 626 that has been a nightmare. It was sitting parked for 2 years without being started and I am now driving it. The first sysmptom was the CEL coming on after the car runs for a few minutes. The second symptom is that the car shuts off when I get off the highway after driving 80mph for about 20 to 30 mins. Sometimes it even shuts off when I'm slowing down on the highway at about 50 MPH.
When the car shuts off, I have to wait anywhere from 20 seconds to 2 minutes before I can start it again, otherwise it just sounds like I'm out of gas.

After learning how to check the codes from reading this forum, I retrieved codes : 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 25, 28, and 41 all at the same time. (I was there for a while.) I was shocked at this and then removed the battery cable to clear the memory and did the test again. This time I came up with codes 28 and 41 only. I did some looking around to find out what the VRIS looks like, and checked the vacum near the EGR and noticed that the top of the rubber piece was rotted.

Is this rotted pump thingy the cause of my problem? Does the EGR solenoid also have a problem? does EGR solenoid in code 28 mean the whole EGR valve?

I tried to remove the EGR to clean it, but I could not find a good angle to remove the pipe at the bottom had no success removing it. Instead I removed and cleaned the trhottlebody and ran seafom through the PCV and in the gas tank to try and clean the EGR. Will this work?

I am going to add some seafom to the oil and try to run some cleaner through the MAF sensor to see if I can at least spread out the shutdowns.

I get stuck on the road for about 2 mins every day. This has been happening about 2 weeks now since I started driving the car. All my efforts to resolve my problem have given me a little bit better gas mileage where I'm up to about 315 to 320 Miles from the full tank.

Sorry for being lengthy, but I wanted to paint a good picture.

Thanks again for your support.

I think it coulld be the distributor..

OK.. I'm home now and have some minor updates. I took off all 3 VRIS solenoids and applied 12 volts of power from the battery and heard nothing. I was expecting at least a click and got nothing at all. I left them disconnected and starterd the car. The startup was normal which allows me to believe that the car has been running without all 3 solenoids the whole time..

someone tole me that it could be an ignitor problem since when it cuts out it drops to 0 RPM and takes a while to turn back on. I checked ebay and came up with this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/IGNITION-MO...sspagenameZWD1V

That link is to a used ignition module, do you think this is a possible alternative to the HEI mod? what are the chances of this working?
I'll endure the VRIS codes if I can get the car to stop shutting off....

Thanks.

VRIS #1 Fixed, New TWIST!

Hi all, here is another update. I went to the junkyard this morning and got a set of VRIS #1 solenoids and changed them all before work. I don't know if I was just lucky but the car didn't shut off on the way in to work. The check engine light still came on when I got on the highway, but this time when I read the codes it came up with 28, and 26.

Do you think that fixing the VRIS #1 set might have set off the #2 set to go bad?

Also, When I got off the highway and I was waiting for the light to change. I noticed that for the first time, my CEL turned itself off. I was happy, and started driving when the light changed, but the CEL came back on within 20 seconds.

Any new ideas?

Well I know the tell tale sign of the ditsy going bad is when the car will not start/ and or does start but runs Very horribly. Shuts off and will not start again.

BTW the B=Bay link did not work.

the HEI mod can be done for very cheap, I for one have not done it but once again I can provide you with a link to how to complete it :)

Hope that helps bro. As far as the engine light coming on and off all the time. My car has done that for the last 5 years ;)

I think you may have a vacuum leak. Wouldn't hurt to go over all the line carefully and see if one is unhooked or cracked. also test any sensors that are throwing the CEL.

Good luck bro, Very glad to hear you got it running and not shutting off.

the code 28 (EGR vacuum solenoid) might be what's causing the CEL to come off and on. when i got my EGR code, the CEL would come on intermittently. the code 26 also seems to indicate a solenoid, so hopefully it's just a solenoid swap and you'll be ok. check back with that 1993-1995 engine contorller malfuction codes page on how to correct them.

Its shutting off again, New codes!!!

Hi all, after clearing the codes today I got some new ones. I'm now reading 25,26, 28, and 41. It seems that these are all related to the various solenoids. I'm on the way to the junk yard in a few hours to collect a handfull of them. I should have an update by Sunday morning after installing all new Solenoids.

Thanks.
