60 ft times

question to anyone who has run this car at the drag strip, I have tried everything from idle launch , 2k 2.5k 3k 3.5k launches, letting it spin tires through 1st into second, gradually go to 6k with little wheelspin in first etc etc etc, my 60 ft times are between 2.36 and 2.42 at best, my et and mph are between 14.3 and 14.4 @ 99.4 - 100.8 mph, I can get the car to be consistent but I feel the 60 ft times are superweak, my mods are an ms CAI , XS BOV and a heavy foot. I have read from 2.0 to 2.2 60 foot times which i doubt (speaking about stock tires only) by other drivers which means I am missing something or there is some serious b.s out there, tires are at 33psi , I havent messed with the pressure to get my baseline at everything in stock form and the best runs for me are at 2600 rpm launch , moderate-medium wheelspin all of first to 2nd gear shift, and quick shifting although some letting off the gas as clutch is engaged. I think the times I have been putting up lately are decent basically 14.35 at 100 mph but considering that 100mph with good traction should be able to be a mid to high 13 second pass on a rwd car with similar power to weight ratio leads me to believe that 60ft times are more important to me than adding more and more power aimlesly. if anyone has suggestions (not looking for drag radials) on how to better my 60 ft times I am all ears , I honestly consider this car hard to keep consistent due to it's lack of traction and danger of being or not being on boost if off by a couple of hundred rpms.....thanks for any help

How are you letting out the clutch at launch, dumping or slipping?
On oem/street tires, slipping or feathering the clutch will produce the best 60'

gradually letting off, but wheelspin is innevitable or I bog enough for it to be counterproductive. I dont powershift which accounts for some of the lag (that could spell some short tranny life ), I run a g-tech on the side to get additional info and the 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift takes .4 seconds each while 3-4 is only about .2 seconds , I cross the traps in 4th , I have tried finishing in 5th but there is no advantage when your speeds are 99 to 100mph ( I'm sure when the trap speeds get to the 105-108mph range 5th will be necessary), I havent taken a look at what speed I am when it's 2.3 2.4 seconds but I assume I am in second gear so the "hang" time between 1st and 2nd contributes to the bad 60ft times but I can't shift any quicker without lifting a tad off the gas to engage the clutch. I will try lowering tire pressure but my experience tells me that regular street tires don't really run any better with lower pressures.....I just want to see if anyone else that has honest time slips has any input on the matter without feeding me a bunch of bull.

I ran my tires down to 24psi cold in the fronts (the low-pressure light will let you know, that's for sure!)

I ran with a 2.2 sec 60ft, but I also had bone-crunching wheelhop, and I aborted the run shortly after 100ft, and coasted the rest.

However, that was dead stock, nothing done at all (including the recall), so YMMV!

Air pressure change combined with VHT seemed to work wonders, if not a bit overkill, for traction concerns.

I hit 2.1s all day with this car. Stock wheels and tires, i have videos and timeslips on this bored. My best 60 witht he two times i went to the track is a 2.12 which ended up being a 13.95 @ 99.95. Next time at the track im pretty sure ill be hitting 2.0s. You CANNOT have the tires chirp or spin one bit, if you do, you wont get lower than a low 2.2. Basically launch right around where boost comes in and feather it so the rpm stay there, once u get moving release the clutch fully and floor it the rest is history.

first off what mods do u have?......second tire pressure and do u use vht or anything like that?...and third if this is not bogus (to be honest I am very skeptical if everything is stock and no vht or anything like that), could you give me a play by play on how you accomplish this, launch rpm .....how much clutch ?....what rpm to release and floor the gas, powershifting or not, shift point etc etc. I did check my g tech because it does show you a detailed account of speed increments while tracking seconds and tenths of seconds. I was mistaken before and the 1st to 2nd shift happens right at the 2.1 or so second mark and as stated before it takes about .4 seconds for speed to increase again so thats my loss due to shifting. and I am not saying that if I cant get 2.1 or 2.2 60 ft times it cannot be done but I have driven a lot more powerful cars than this so I am experienced enough to know what I am doing but if people are getting 2.1 60 ft times with stock cars and the best I can get is 2.35 thats miles apart and I am obviously doing something way off or those 60ft times are b.s. (no offense meant , I just want to see what else I can do)

Stock i went and hit a 2.15 60 foot time. Now i went with a cpe intake and a hollowed out 2nd cat and got a 2.12, 2.14, 2.18. The timeslips and videos are on this board, just look for my username. I told you what i do, hover right around where your turbo spools and keep it there by feathering the clutch and gas untill you get moving, once you get moving get off the clutch and floor it. I run my stock tires at 25psi, i do not power shift, plus your 60 foot time is all done in 1st gear. By the time you shift to 2nd, you are already past 60 foot. I do nto use any type of vht, both track days were done at differnt tracks, so whatever the track prep was, was set in stone. Like i said im not bullshitting, search my user name for timeslips and youtube for videos as i have all 3 13.9s on video. Actually here are the videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eS3t8D32PPg

thanx for the proof !!! I will keep trying , my mph at the 1/8 th and the 1/4 are identical to yours so it's not a matter of hp......it's traction by the time you hit the 1/8th I am half a second behind and then I run identically to you. I will try 25psi , the thin line between boggin and smoking the tires is what I am missing.....thanks again.

Good 60 ft's!

I hit a 2.15 for my best 60 ft. I don't really try that hard for 60's more intrested in trap speed. I think I can do a little better but I don't have a motor mount upgrade so I get wheel hop pretty bad sometimes.

I had a 1.7 in my eclipse though!!(burnout)

It is a very thin line, but the second you hit it ONE time you will know exactly where it is. Anything over 2.1 and im mad, the last 4 passes down a drag strip for me were all 2.1s, im going to try reving it a little higher and see if i can get a 2.0

thanks again , in all honestly my experience is in running 2 or 3 speed automatics w/manual valve bodies so the clutch and the fwd is new to me as far as a performance car, but I will try the feathering of the clutch all u guys say, I am assuming thats heavy slipping of the clutch until you can fully dump it at go wot. and I have a feeling that u are right, the second I figure out what it is that i am not doing correctly i will be able to repeat it over and over. thanx again

i wouldnt consider it heavy slipping, its 1 to 1.5 second of slipping max. Some people really dog their clutch, im not one of them

How much for a new clutch - stock, as in "under warranty", including labor?? Just curious. Some good advice in this thread!
