6-speed manual test drive - finally.

I'm approaching 10K on my MT and I've never experienced the 3rd-4th issue.. I think it's mainly because I have rather wide shoulders and I pull more straight back in the car than towards myself. My wife is rather small and she had an issue with it, I told her to pull her arm like she was elbowing someone (pull your elbow towards the rear window wiper) and she hasn't had a problem since. From 5th to 6th is easy; just push away like you're giving the 'talk to the hand' expression.

For Mileage, I've never calculated a tank at less than 33 other than a trip through the mountains. I drive it to work every day through a rather hilly route and my average (haven't reset it since 2 miles.... the dealer did that to show me how) reads 34.3. Though I am a rather moderate driver and do a lot of coasting down the hills. Oddly enough the car is so light that tends to speed me up more than I would with the pedal.

This car seems rather unique in that the pressure on the gas pedal isn't quit as sensitive. If you aren't accelerating and you just lighten the pressure on the pedal, you don't go any slower, but you see the MPG's on the dash jump 5-10.

As for the RPM/Highway question: 70-80 is usually about 2750-2950.

The best one I have ever used is Hondas S2000 (loved that car). Very short throws, distinct gate pattern, and very smooth and silky operation.

You guys are talking about 3rd to 4th. I rarely use 4th. Most of the time I go 1-2-3 then 6th to save gas mileage. I put the car in 6th as low as 35 mph (if that is the speed limit). I very rarely row through all of the gears.

Interesting. Sometimes I do 1-2-3-4 then 6, but have not done 3->6. You must be at 5-6K RPM to do it, right?

If I'm getting on the interstate I will hit fourth if I have to accelerate quickly. However around town 1,2,3,6. Much better in town gas mileage that way.
