5th Gear Swap from NSN - Anyone Tried This?

just got my car back from tranny upgrade.... including NSN 5th gear swap! I havent driven on the highway with it much but it lowers rpms by about 125. I can cruise at 68~69mph @ 3000 rpms. Not a huge difference but i hope i notice a difference in gas mileage. I'll keep you guys posted!!

Well I put the gear in the day before. I have not put the transmission back in yet as I am waiting for new flywheel bolts to come in. When I put it back on in a couple of days will let you know about the noise atleast.

No regrets on my 5th gear swap. I will say it was a bit expensive to buy and install, so do what I did, lump it in with a tranny rebuild, flywheel install.

^^^ ditto, I had a msp lsd, clutch and flywheel and 5th gear swap all installed at the local technical college for ~ 100 bucks!!!.

Ditto. Thinkin' this might be an Uncle Sam Stimulus Check purchase.
Looking for reports on real-world results.

Could you post (or link to) complete install instructions and all tools needed? I would like to have this but kinda leery about messing with the tranny. And at the same time very anal about doing all the work on my car myself. The only thing I pay someone for is mount and balance tires lol.

so to anyone who has actually done this what are the torque specs for those lock nuts also has anyone accidentally broke the little oil passage piece off?

I have the torque specs somewhere. I have a fully transmission manual.

I've broken many of the oil passage things off. I always replace them, I know one person who had it broken off and their 5th gear burned up.. but I know another that never had an issue... soo.. who knows there.

ok i just know to replace them the whole trans has to be disassembled and then reassembled. it broke off to the point where there is just a knub sticking out
