40000 miles?

I'm looking in to buying a Speed 3 soon but I'm trying to keep it under 20 grand for budget concerns. I know won't be getting a perfect car but I needed to know if anyone knows how good they are after 40000 miles. the model i keep finding is listed as 2007 model with 44064 miles at 15,888 dollars. I don't plan on buying the mazda until april so i just needed some input if its even worth looking at ones wit 40k miles or up. I know i wrote a lot but really lookng forward to buying this car and trying not to make any mistakes.

buying any used car is a crap shoot. If you do get it, I would recommend and extended warranty

The most likely problems would be a smoking turbo(let the car idle for @5 minutes and see if it pours out white smoke) and blown struts/shocks. The stock shocks are marginal to begin with so I'd plan on replacing them with Bilsteins or Konis.

just take a good test drive, let it idle for at least 10 minutes without moving, and take a very slow drive on a bumpy road and listen/feel for shocks. You can also check the engine bay for markings on bolts, might indicate mods. There's a lot of bone-stock MS3's out there too that could be up for sale, i'd have no issue with buying one of those.

thanks guys. everytime i search for brand new they come listed at 25k, I can't find anything that cost 19k without having a couple thousand miles.

If it's silver, don't buy it. Laloosh curse 2.0. Ha I am kidding but someone did buy it a little while ago and found out what it was on here, wouldn't surprise me them unloading it so soon.

But back to the real question. The shocks are crap and that's the biggest problem, get the service history on it.

I have just under 80000 miles on mine and have had no problems what so ever. Bought mine new with 31 miles on it in Jan 07.........no problems with shocks, smoking turbo or anything. Only thing that has been done was the motor mount recall..........

one more thing that bothers me, is why is 2010 mazda speed 3 lised for 21k or 23k at a dealership but for a brand new 2009 model they list it as 25k?

If it is the car you are going to buy, have a competent mechanic check it out. If not, close your eyes and cross your fingers!!

because of that ugly smiling front end of the 2010 ms3 that that the 2009
ms3 demands more $$, mazda knew they f***ed up when they released the curreny gen of ms3s.

Perhaps the 09 is a GT model. The GT trim has features that you can't get on the 2010.
Oh and did anyone mention that they look better?

I'll sell you my 08' for 16000 but it doesn't have over 40k on it yet. Just 38k.

$15,900 is a bit much for that car. Offer $14K and let 'em talk you up (to no more than $15K). An after-market warranty is not a bad idea. Shop carefully for that, too.

Look for an '08.5 or newer model. They made some revisions to the turbo and some other stuff that fixes some of the issues earlier models had. I got my '08.5 with 10,000 miles for $17,500 (good craigslist deal) just for reference.
