4 Channel Dash Cam Recommendations?

Hi Guys!

Looking for a 4 Ch (front, read, and sides) dashcam. Ideally brand names reputable and non-cloud.

I understand that Thinkware makes a 'combinator' accessory that can take input from multiple cams and join it into a single frame, but I'm concerned that with 1/4 the area for each camera, the picture won't be clear enough.

Suggestions?

Vantrue is a good brand. They have 4 channel. Check their site.

I used to like Rexing, but they've gone downhill on my opinion. I now use Viofos because they use Sony Starvis 2 sensors. That's the very best sensor that you can get right now.

An update on this:

I decided to go for the Viofo A229 Pro because most forums/people say it's Sony sensor is the best in the business.

Well, that may be true, but I gotta say, at 500 $CAD I am disappointed. I'm not sure if it's the Lens, or the software itself, but it's hard to read license plates if cars are more than like 15-20 feet away.

Another issue (and this may be common to all dashcam,I'm not sure) is that more than 50% of the frame is wasted by the sky. I'm not sure such a wide lens helps, again, because mostly you're just interested in the area where cars are. So most of the 4k pixels the Sony sensors are capturing are wasted on the sky. Not good.

The software is OK at best. I had a Thinkware before and I think the software was better. Transferring files takes forever, but that could be the SD card limiting rates. But the bad thing is that while you're downloading, you can't do anything else. They should allow downloading in the background while you can continue to browse the file list.

Parking mode seems decent. I haven't tested the limit yet, I've set the hardwire voltage limit to 12.2V and I can capture 4 hours on the limited bitrate mode without hitting the voltage limit. The quality of the video on this mode is surprisingly good.

This is extremely unusual. This may sound silly, but I have to ask: Did you remember to remove the protective film from the lens before you installed it?

Also, Viofo offers an optional yet inexpensive polarizing filter for the camera. You may want to look at picking up one of those. I have them on all of my cameras.

I had it installed. I will check if it has the plastic. But I did install the filter and it did help with image quality.
