3s Price?

Hey everyone -

Newbie so I apologize if this is a dumb question...I'm interested in a 5-door 3s so I emailed a few local dealers who work through the 'net. Only heard back from one so far, but he's telling me that "demand is far outstripping supply" for the 3s and that the best deal he could offer me would be $500 OVER invoice. That sounds a little dodgy to me, but...I guess my question is, is this in line with what everyone else has been paying for their Mazda3 here?

Thanks in advance.

Normally when demand is outstripping supply they will hold right to the MSRP. $500 over invoice is pretty good. Invoice isnt the sticker price, MSRP is the sticker price.

Cool.

Alright - certainly sounds like it's not out of line with what everyone else is paying then...I was under the assumption that people were picking them up below invoice (not below STICKER but below INVOICE) based on another post I had seen here.

Thanks for the quick responses.

keep trying to get it at invoice or a few hundred bucks below. it is very possible, you just have to be persistent. they know that you have a choice of several other good cars in the same class as the new 3, so that sounds like more a of a line to me. The 3 is a great new car, but dealers know they are not the only kid on the block selling cars. Keep trying and you'll get the deal you want! Good luck.

My local Dealer here in Austin, TX had well over 10 sedans, and well over 20 5 doors just sitting on his lot. The 5 door I picked out has a safety inspection sticker date of 12/03, meaning it's been on their lot since at least newyears eve. That was the bargaining point I used to get mine for about $800 off invoice. It was a stock model too, so I believe sticker was USD $17,415 (Including delivery and prep charges) plus $195 for hand painted pinstripes (this was the only extra I got, and they do it to all of them before the cars are put out on the lot).

Of course you have to remember, this is TexAss, and there are lots of cowboys around here who would never think of buying anything but a ford (effed on race day) truck lol. The demand for such a car may be greater in other parts of the world. Heck, at least 40% of the vehicles you see on the road around here are some form of chevy/ford/dodge/toyota/nissan/mazda truck, and another 20% are huge SUVs.
