3rd gear pop-out

oh crap man i got this car a week ago and already found a gripe. sometimes not all the time but enough to make me worry that 3rd pops out of gear for some reason. at first i thought it was cause i just didn't put it in 3rd fully(i can be lazy with my shifting) but then i was doing a 3rd gear pull and then i hear that awful sound of gears grinding as the shiter pops out of gear. my Q: is this the LSD prob i have been hearing about or will i need more work/a lot of money to fix this?

Sounds like your synchro's are shot.. Those are usually what cause the trans to pop out of gear..

how big a problem is this? more importantly how long can i go without fixing it? also how much would something like this cost? sorry for all the Q's btw i just like to know everything i can.

It depends if you race it alot or shift fast.. If you do either of those then its a big problem and you wont be able to go a long time w/o fixing.. The cost of doing it yourself is ALOT cheaper than a shop.. Although if you dont have the know-how or dont want to attempt it, take it to a shop.. It will probably be around 800-1000 to take it apart and fix correctly..

I dont think so.. Transmissions for these cars are pretty damn expensive for being a 20k car when new..

last time i had a gear pop out ( in fourth) it was after landing... after the jump

Where is kooldino iIthink he has gear sets for these trannies and they are in junk yards miner sensor swap I think the 626 tranny and the Ford Probe trannies are the same anything that uses the 2.0 Fs. engine

Mine just started to jump out of 3rd gear . Arrggh.

mine did the same thing about a month ago and i changed my fluids...runs like a champ now. but im definitly saving up to change out tranny cuz i know its gunna go soon the way i drive and at 56K

yea same thing happens to me from time to time, never while im racing, and only when im half asleep or when its really cold outside....ill try replacing the fluids, going to try synthetic transmission fluid and see how that goes

my car did that for about a month, than it just got stuck in third, and i burned the clutch out driving it home. had to replace tranny.
