I just got 35% tint becuase I thought it was the darkest tint but then people told me I could have gotten 20%... Whats the deal I thought the higher the % the more dark?

5% = limo tint. Most State is illgeal. But many people get away with them anyway.
so, 5% is the darkest you can possibilty get.

35% isn't bad, it's in between dark and light tint. I think it's the right amount of tint to get all the way around. It will be your car cooler in the summer, yet it doesn't sacrifice darker vision at night.
People are sitll able to see inside the car.

got any pictures of 35% on your car?

after my car gets fixed I will post em. Dam freaking friend wrecked my MSP 3 weeks ago and its still not even fixed!!! OMG I hate farmers! First thing im doing when I get it back is test drive it to make sure everything is PERFECT or ima go keeel my mr. agent guy!

I've got 32% and I think its the perfect level especially for all the way around. You can see in pretty easily, so no problems (knock on wood) from the police...plus I think it looks damn fine.

I have 20% on my back 5 (P5). I think its 20, came with the car.

I'm planning on upgrading to 5% on back 4 excluding rear window. I like to be able to see out the rear window and I'm not worried about people peaking into the trunk since we have that trunk cover/deck.

i have 20% all the way around and i think it's just right...although it's not legal in all 50 states...you may want to check with the legal limits in your state first.

Just to clarify:
The number represents how much light it lets through, so a 20% tint means that it lets in 20% of the light.

EDIT: Farmers? :wtf:

black,

you get dyed tint or metallic? anyone know if the metallic tint affects the antenna at all? also, since there is an antenna on the rear window, does the shop tint the back as one piece or do they have to do it in sections? i'm actually going tomorrow to get my windows tinted. planning on getting 35% all the way around. gonna be paying about 180 or so for the whole thing. i know how dark i want it but haven't decided which type of tint is best. any comments?

What's the recommend % tint for California for ALL windows (not including the windshield)? w/o getting pull over and get a fix ticket it to take the driver/passenger side off?

Thanks

DO NOT GET DYE TINT! Get the metallic it will be gaurenteed against fading, peeling or bubbling. Also good metallic film will have a lifetime warranty and it will not effect your antennae. If they won't do your back window in one peice goto another tint shop.

so all this talk about metallic tint affecting reception and defrost burn from a single one piece are untrue? if that's the case then maybe i'll just go ahead and do that then. has anyone done this to any msp or p5, or just any car with the antenna built into the rear window?

As far as in California, I've got the windows tinted on my Civic, 35% in front and 5% on the back 3 windows. The car is lowered, with a body kit, rims, exhaust, all the goodies a cop would normally write someone up for, and I(luckily)haven't been hasseld yet. I've been pulled over 2 or 3 times, and nothing has been said about the tint, just minor fix it tickets.

I got 35% on mine but it tested about 30% when i got my inspection sticker. I'm happy with that much and its nice tint though.

Yes, for the most part, these rumors are untrue. The only reception that I know for sure is affected is the OnStar vehicle tracking systems (found in mainly GMs). I have heard mixed things about radio antennas and most shops will warn you, but I've yet to see a problem.

The defroster burn is another myth. The only time you run into problems is when a tint shop uses multiple pieces of film on the back window and they slice your defroster lines with a razor. This makes the defroster inoperable. Most tint shops actually recommend running the defroster to cure the adhesive on the tint film. Like stated above, look for a tint shop that does a one-piece installation on the rear window and uses a metallic or high-performance film with a lifetime warranty. If you can't get a one-piece install at one particular shop, look for another one. Just from having friends that used to be in the business and tinting many vehicles myself, I can tell you that you get what you pay for. If you look for the cheapest tint job, it will also be the crappiest. Hope this helps.

i just had my car tinted today. i had 35% done all the way around. i didn't get the metallic though. i still have a lifetime warranty for anything that happens to the tint, even if i end up not liking it. anyway, i'm supposed to wait like 2 days for it to settle then i gotta go back on the 2nd day to go over the rear window again. they said that the defroster lines are really thick. ./me shrugs

i'll take some pics when i get a chance.

does anyone else notice that the windows close very slowly, especially the back?

i never rolled down the windows when i first got my car. i hope it wasn't cuz of the tinting when they had to heatgun the windows. can anyone else test their windows out and see if it is in fact just slow?

Hey Krillin.
guess what? I got my car tinted this monday...and yesterday i noticed my rear window started to show BIG time on those defroster lines. If were to put my finger nails over the lines, i can actually push it down. The ripple over each line makes the people who look at it from the other side see a buncyh of white lines.
should i bring it back in?

Wait a while before bringing it back. You usually get some bubbles after getting tint done. They will eventually shrink after a few days. In the summer it usually takes a couple of days with the heat of the sun. When I got mine done it was when we had -25 degree weather. It took nearly a week for all the bubbles and haze to disappear. If after a week you still have bubbles I would take it back and see what they say, but don't worry for now.
