3 psi and then sputters

As the title says, I get my car to 3 psi and then it sputters. I can force it to 6 psi but it does not give me anymore power and it burns oil with or without boost. I have a tiny bit of shaft play in the turbo in and out and up and down. I am just not sure if the turbo is shot or maybe piston rings. I have not had the time to do a comp test yet.

Sounds more like a boost leak, are you sure it's oil and not gas?

I will look into the vacuum lines but I replaced all lines about 3 years ago. The smoke is definitly oil. would a MAF affect the way it runs to this degree. I assumed it was turbo because its always at the same psi. I can sit at a stand still and rev it to whatever RPM and it never sputters or I can feather it at 3 psi and build speed but as soon as I go past 3 psi it s**** itself.

Yes, the maf can have a big effect on this. Double check that you don't have a vac/boost leak after your maf. It's possible that after 3 psi your maf can't keep the fuel curve sufficient and you're getting knock. Do you have any codes?

No codes at all. If i put it in neutral and rev it I could hit the limiter if I wanted to without issue of it sputtering but it still smokes. I have not had time due to work and it being about 20 deg has put a little crimp in progress.

My car did that when the maf sensor wires came loose. Just get an maf o up!ff ebay for 20 bucks and see if that will do it
