2nd row

Does the 2nd row have enough room for an adult in the middle of two car seats? Seems like a dumb question but sort of a negative for us. I am currently cross shoppng the cx-9/pilot/acadia. Haven't taken any for test drive yet though.

for a small adult (like my 5' 2" wife), i would say yes...but it is snug and not for a long roadtrip (just for 10-15 min trips to the store).

depends

Depends on the car seats and depends on the person. My wife is pretty average in size and can squeeze between our Evenflo Triumph and Sunshine Kids Radian 65 for short trips. If we had two Sunshine Kids seats it would be much more comfortable. (As an aside, the Sunshine Kids car seat is truly amazing...it's more compact than anything else I've seen...great for fitting 3 across or maximizing room for adult passengers.)

agree with other responses. space is tight (function of what kind of car seats you have), so it's better for a skinny person that is also isn't very tall (reduced legroom given armrest console). You can try to put both car seats side by side, but that may be a tight fit or impossible.

I consider that middle seat the 7th seat in the car, so I'd put two adults in the 3rd row before putting one in that seat.

Problem is getting access to the 3rd row with child seats in the second. You can slide the 2nd row forward but can't fold the seatback. Getting into the 3rd row at this point is doable but it isn't pretty. On these occasions I've moved one or two car seats to the 3rd row (no LATCH but seatbelts work fine) and put the adults in the second row.

When shopping for the CX-9 we spent some time with the GM Lamdas. Overall they are impressive. May not have the same drive quality as the CX-9 but still pretty good for such big cars. They also manage to eek out another mpg (vs. the CX-9) while seating 8. Overall these are solid cars but the flip and slide 2nd row is a sign that somebody at GM wasn't paying attention. (Actually probably a lot of people.) They were so caught up in the gee-whiz factor that nobody bothered to ask if there was a reason why no other automaker had come up with a similar system. For those who don't know, the second row of a GM Lambda crossover cannot slide at all when there is a car seat in place. Major fail. I imagine this is on the punch list for the next revision of these cars.
