Will I have a problem if I put 275/45/20 on the 20 inch rim that came with the car?
2008 CX9 GT
Thanks

Check the specs of the tire you are thinking about. They always list recommended wheel width ranges. My guess is that 275 will recommend at least an 8 or 8.5" wheel width. That doesn't mean it can't be done, but what is recommended.

Did you mount this size? Discount tire list this as a compatible tire. Just want to make sure. This size is almost $20 cheaper than the 245/50/20 size. With 4 of them plus tax, it is pretty significant. Thanks.

Answering my own question. I have this size mounted. Yoko Parada Spec-X. One particular Discount Tire had them. Probably a customer ordered and didn't want it. So far so good. The Duellers were almost bald. Hardly any grip left in the snow. Worked good for the past 3 winters.

Watch out for uneven wear that comes with wider tires.
(outer edge at the front, inner edge at the rear).
Need to rotate them (F/R) more often.

275/40 r20

Found it on another forum.
No issues with Toyo Proxes S/T 275/40 R20 on factory wheels: 1.webp2.webp3.webp

CONS:
1) MPG drop. (expect about 10% - about 2mpg especially on highways)
2) cost of tires and shorter lifespan due to uneven wear.
3) flat spotting in the morning (steering shaking at around 40mph).
4) wider tires are bad for wet and snow surface.
...

PROS:
1) big improvement in road-holding
2) slightly shorter stopping distance
3) debatable better looks
...

Just my two cents.

It is amazing to me that the 275/45 is actually cheaper by $20 than the 255/50.
Supply and demand?

However, considering the 2lb extra weight per tire, and 3cm wider, and assuming a 10% drop in MPG of 17,
this tire will cost an extra $500 in fuel cost through the lifespan of 30K miles.
I will pass.

Wow, 275/40/20 on stock rim! That the size I like to have on my truck but I'm not brave enough to go all out for that. I'ven shoping around and found 265/45/20 costs $58 cheaper than 245/50/20. I always wanted larger size of tires on my truck. I think I will get these tires. Thanks for the info.
