252,000km burning oil and strange wire question

Hello Everyone,

I bought this 2002 5 Speed Mazda Protege5 at 249,000 km (154721 miles) without any error codes.

My 2002 Mazda Protege5 as of today, is, 252,500 km (156,896 miles), currently burning oil and was wondering where do I start to diagnose the issue. The last oil change I did at 252,000 km (156586 miles) drained out 1.8L (1.9 qt) of oil and caused me to panic. I have not smelled any burning oil from the interior nor outside and have ever noticed strange smoke coming out of the vehicles exhaust. Can someone please list me out the best practices and procedure order. Thank you.

Another question - Does anyone know why those wires are covered in some weird black stuff? I was thinking the plastic got melted due to the extreme heat coming off of the exhaust manifold cover. Thank you.

You've got seized oil rings on your pistons. It's a common problem with our cars.

Search "smoke on startup".

There has been some success with fixing it but a rebuild or engine replacement is usually necessary.
