212 MPH Landspeed record in Saturn Ion Redline!?

Anyone else hear this..

I heard on news this AM that a Saturn Ion redline set the small sedan land speed record @ 212 mph!!

:wtf: ... I'm not sure if I'll be happy gettin' passed by a saturn! LOL!!

has to be BS. Look at the chasis they build those cars on and look at the Corvette. I'ts considered AMAZING for a corvette to run 212mph. How unbelievable is it for a friggin POS saturn to do it?? Those stupid "dent-resistant" panels would blow off the car.

FWIW, I've never seen a saturn go over 120mph. Even the sporty 2 door model 5-spd with the 2.2L motor.

I'm callin BS on this unless it's some specialty race car made for the salt flats or whatnot

That's what I think it is...a specialty on salt flats....yeah, they must have some serious frame modifications for that s***, I agree, but I don't think a major news network would air BS....

The new Redline is a supercharged I4 dohc that makes 200hp does 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds.

However, GMC is crazy, and they probably do have a race Redline, maybe not for sale, but for show.

I mean they do have a 9.1 second cav and a 9.5 second sunfire. So I'm not surprised that GM would make a 200+ Redline, but I highly doubt it at the sametime.

I didn't even know I4's could break the 180 mark.

I'd get the car if it wasn't made by saturn, or look terrbile.

I'd also buy the Tiberon if it wasn't made buy hydani and had 200 hp with a good 6spd and was Rwd.

Hell I would buy a lot of cars if they were made right .

I still wish our MSPs were AWD or Rwd, and had either a strong engine, or 200 hp, or a easy tune ECU.

You think the same Corvette could go 212mph with only 200hp??
My supercharged contour SVT made 297hp and it only ran about 155mph. That was bouncing off the rev limiter. It would require either an extra 250hp or an 8spd tranny.

Yeah to reach 200mph you need about 400 to 500 horsepower.

Or a really long gear ratio tranny

They never said how LONG it took for the car to go 200mph

I saw a Twin Turbo z06 wit 550whp run a 10.3 second quater, and he drives the thing every weekend now thats hotness.

The Corvette is the fastest and nicest looking street car IMO .
Z06 all the waaaaay.

I totally agree w/ you there, Eric....the MSP would be even better w/ RWD or AWD & a better ECU. Plus you won't see me in a 200 HP Saturn...for the same reason I'm not in a 250 HP Neon right now...

As for the I4 breaking 180, don't forget about the older version Lotus Esprit's...they had a twin turbo I4 that kicked ass. I don't know if it broke 180, but if not I'm positive that it was pretty damn close, as it is considered an exotic supercar.
