I'm looking at the new bridgestone ws60 in a size 205/60-16. I'm thinking it might fill up the wheel wells a bit more than a 55-series. Anyone done this? I'm assuming they'll fit.

I came mighty close to doing this, but opted for 205/55 REVO1s instead. I've read on this forum that 60s will fit, but might rub on tight turns. See more on the subject here.

I have 205/60-16s on my 5 with no problems, no rub and a heck of a lot cheaper than 50-17s! I also find the higher profile seems to ride a bit nicer in the cold weather.

They are Mazda Protege5 16" rims. I'm not sure about the offset, but I think like 45-48 or something.

i put my winter sneaks on last night. the Michelin x-ice (or whatever they're called) ride nice.

ya they're not the wheels i wanted. Tire Rack said the MSW's wouldn't be in until mid Dec if at all so I was forced to pick another kind. These are Sport Edition E3s (i think). I'm only ok with these wheels, not as enthusiastic as I would have been with the MSWs, but hey, they're only winter wheels.

I just couldn't go 5-6 months with steelies. I like the car too much.

Yeah...Sport Edition do make some decent looking wheels and they are reasonably priced...lemme know these hold out over the Winter.
I do the opposite ...... I run my OE wheels in the Winter and a set of aftermarket Advanti's in the summer.

^^ that's what I did with my last car, but for some reason it just didn't work out this way this time. Probably because I like the stock wheels so much. But there's a possibility that I may buy a really killer set of wheels for summer, and then sell the stockers next year.

I already am anticipating a problem with the new wheels that is my fault. One fell face down on the garage floor and the cement dinged up the finish on a spoke. What do you bet the salt will eat it's way into the clear coat at that spot? I've never had wheels where the spokes stick out a little farther than the edge of the tire. I'm a dumbass.

Ouch,.....That sucks, especially since they got dinged before you even put them on the car. I know what you mean about spokes sticking out like that. I had a set of Montegi's on my Protege a few years back with the same issue. The problem for me was that I bought them off the Internet, and lookign at them on-line does not give you an opportunity to see these things. Since then I swore never to buy wheels on-line unless I've seenthem in person ahead of time.
Hopefully you can use some clear coat to patch them up.

can I down size

Do we really have to have 205's for winter..

I figured that next down that is closest is a 185 60.. but that is thin.. (which I am ok with for winter)

Is there a size down.. or are we stuck with 205's

I have the GS by the way.. 16"
