205/45/R16 on stock 16*6 rims - any problems?

205/45/R16 tyres usually have an approved rim width of 6.5" ~ 7.5"

the stock rims are 6" only

i know a lot of people have 205/45/R16 on stock rims, and me too. but at times, i can see that the stock rims should be wider to accommodate the tyres.

so my question is, any problem running 205/45/R16 on stock rims since it's outside the approved rim wdith? is it just a hype or what?

thanks.

I'm running 205/45-16's mounted on 7" wide rims with +42 mm offset on my 02 DX. Absolutely no problems whatsoever with this fitment. No contact or rubbing even with 4 people in the car. I'm not sure about the P5 though because it may need more + offset than the sedan.

I would not run 205/45-16's on an OEM wheel because the 6" wide rim does not give proper support for that size tire. It's not just hype as that tire can squirm on the rim and reduce stability and degrade cornering. A number of people on the Forum have run 205/50-16's succesfully on the OEM wheel however.

thanks goldstar, indeed, 205/50/R16 has an approved rim width from 5.5" ~ 7.5"

one more question, i'm not so sure about the naming in the states, is your DX a 5 door hatch or a sedan? thanks!

My DX is a sedan. That's why I'm not quite sure if my setup would work on a P5.

I got some 7 inch rims and am using oem dunlops. wish that i had some 205/50/16's for them becasue they are wider them stock rims.

Hi Progege52003, what offset are you running? with 7 inch rims U can choose either 205/45/R16 or 205/50/R16

they are konig holes......i am not sure what the offset it? i would have went with 205/50/16 if i had not had extra OEM tires in my basement....

I have 205/45-16's on my stock rims and I have had no problems at all, and I like to take turns hard and fast.

ugh thanks. U just have helped saving me a couple of hundred dollars.

actually it's that set of volk racing se37 rims on a local auction passed without bidding. if the price is right, i might just take them no matter what.

oh and btw these are stock rims

and if you want to put 16x7 you gotta have +45 offset for your P5...but I may be a crazy canuck :D
