2020 CX-5 Moonroof not closing completely

Hi,

We have a 2020 CX-5, purchased CPO last year. The 12 month Mazda warranty expired in late June. About a week ago the moonroof stopped closing properly. If you push the button forward to close, it slides forward normally, but the rear edge of the glass panel does not raise properly. The (US) drivers side does not lift at all, the passengers side does lift. The front edge of the glass is aligned normally. We looked with a borescope, but we cannot see anything blocking the glass or rails. We removed the glass to watch the rails. From what we can the the passengers side behaves as normal, the rail slides forward, then the rear raises up. The drivers side slides forward, but does not raise. Looking from above there is a cutout in the rail for a tab to move up when the rear edge raises. That tab is not aligned with the cutout, the rail appears to move about 5mm too far forward.

Does anyone here have experience with this?
Can the travel of the glass carrying rails be adjusted? Mechanically or with dealer software?
Can the guide rails be adjusted forwards or backwards relative to the moonroof frame?

Ill try to upload some pics later today.

Thanks for any help!

Hi,

Depending when this 2020 CX-5 was delivered for the first owner, you could still have original 36-month / 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper new car warranty. It’s possible that the 12-month bumper-to-bumper CPO warranty is additional to original 36-month bumper-to-bumper new car warranty. Contact Mazda North American Operations to see if Mazda can cover your problem.

What was the original in-service date of the vehicle? The 12 month CPO warranty is added to whatever is left of the original warranty (if any)

No warranty coverage, i called and confirmed.
Vehicle currently has ~72k miles on it, and ~64k when we purchased it last year.

Might need to open the sunroof and clean the tracks and spray them down with WD-40.
