2019 CX-5 headlight operation question

My 2019 CX-5 US Grand Touring model was recently repaired by a local body shop after front end damage. I don't believe the headlights are operating correctly.

Can someone please send me a video of the headlight action on startup of the car?

Does a document exist that details the operation of the headlights (during startup and driving)?

Thank you!

When you start (visible easily at night) the light stream swivels (left and right for each headlight) and then centers. Thats it upon startup.

Thank you, do you have a CX5? If so, can you please send me a video? I want to show the body shop owner how it is supposed to work. TY

FWIW I've never noticed the left/right swivels when starting my 2020 and 2024 CX5s. Both cars had the adaptive headlights feature.

Look closely when the car starts with headlights set to auto turn on at night. The Adaptive ones do that check once upon startup.

why do you think there is something wrong with yours?
The car had front end damage from an accident. Before the accident the car had proper adaptive functions. I believe the headlights Auto leveled on startup and while the car was in motion the headlights turn left and right with the steering wheel. It does neither since I've received it back from the body shop. I'm trying to get video of a CX-5 with the adaptive headlights working properly and share it with the gentleman from The body shop. It is a 2019 CX-5 Grand Touring model. Thank you for all the assistance!!

see first if they may be turned off in the infotainment settings/options.<--

Your best other option to convince the shop is to show them the Mazda owner manual (available online too) where it says how the adaptive lights function.

Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me out. My 2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring had front-end damage from an accident, and since getting it back from the body shop the adaptive headlights no longer auto-level on startup or turn with the steering wheel. If anyone has a video of a CX-5 with properly working adaptive headlights, I’d really appreciate it so I can show it to the body shop. Thanks in advance!

The proper way to diagnose this problem is to use an OBD2 code reader to see if there are any stored codes related to the adaptive headlights. If the headlights aren't functioning properly then likely there will be fault codes stored.

Also you could check the invoice from the body shop and see if any control modules were replaced. If modules were replaced then they would have needed to be coded to the vehicle before they would work properly. Or you could ask the technician if any modules were replaced and if they were, were they coded?

A modern body shop should know how to do this stuff, they shouldn't need to see a video, what would they do with that information anyway? Just tell them that the adaptive headlights don't work, they should know what to do from there.

Thank you.... The passenger adaptive lens assembly was damaged/replaced. Does the lens also need to be coded?
I don't know any details about the coding but the error codes should lead the technician to what needs to be coded. It could be that the control module needs to be "retrofitted" to the new lens assembly, meaning the the control module needs to know what it's controlling. I'm speaking from some general knowledge that I have from coding adaptive headlights on a BMW, I have no experience coding on Mazdas.
