2017 CX-5 GT have a remote start or remote start app?

:
2023 CX5 turbo
My Mother in-law lives in cold Minnesota and has a 2017 CX5 grand touring that she bought new and claims it has never had remote start. She is looking to have one installed but apparently was told they don't make an aftermarket remote start for Mazda. I live 1000 miles away so hard to look for myself. She does great but is in her early 80's and I wonder if she just did not download the app. Any help appreciated..

There were two options. One used an app, but it would no longer work because it used 2G cellular which has been shut down by the carriers. When that happened,Mazda offered original owners a rebate or some money towards installation of a aftermarket remote start. If the car had that one, there would be a pair of antenna stickers on the upper passenger side windshield. The other option was a remote start with a separate fob from the key fob. Mine has that. The range is not very good. Basically have to have line of sight within a couple hundred feet. (They may have offered to install that one for owners who originally had the cellular one, I can’t remember for sure.). I don’t know if the factory one with the fob is still available or if a dealer would install it for you or not. If you look through these forums, though, I’m pretty sure there are multiple threads about people having aftermarket remote starts installed. I don’t think the information about there not being aftermarket remote start for Mazda is correct.

Maybe they will offer us cX-5 and cx-90 folks some money for a remote start. I have no AT&T coverage in my area and the remote start app won't work. It does however work in town but I don't need it there. My 2022 F250 remote starts fine from a key fob in the garage 150 ft from the house though. Why they just won't put a remote start on the key fob boggles my mind.....

There are plenty of aftermarket Remote Start options for that 17 CX5. Just find a local Car Installer near her. No there isn't anything from Mazda, but PLENTY of aftermarket ones I assure you.
They are very aftermarket remote start friendly as they were in 16...when I got mine. :D

she lives in very rural Minnesota so not a lot of shops that do that type of thing. The one auto place in her town told her they did not make them for Mazdas...remotes for John Deere tractors no problem for a mazda car problem :) I was hoping being it was the top of the line CX5 for that year that it would have come with one.

Mazda Remote Start and MMS (Mazda Mobile Start) are optional factory accessories installed by the dealer and they’re crappy at best. Forget about Mazda Remote Start which features an extra key fob with a BIG telescopic antenna, and MMS which seems to be dead. Go get an aftermarket remote start system such as Fortin EVO-ONE or iDatalink HC2352AC and many others. They all use factory key fob without additional fob or subscription.
