2016 Mazda3 cargo light issues

So I just purchased a 2016 Mazda3 hatchback and switched out the interior tungsten globes for LEDS. When I swapped out the cargo light, at first it worked fine but then stopped. I tried replacing it with the original globe (after checking the globe - it's good) and now it doesn't work either. What position should the switch be in to work when the lift gate is open? I've tried both to no avail but was curious which was correct and if other setting was to leave the light on? Is there a timer like with the map lights? I've ordered a new switch simply because that's all I can think of of that could be wrong. If I meter the female plug I get 9 volts - oddly not 12 volts but should be enough to at least light up the tungsten globe. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
