2016 CX-5 vs 2016 Tucson

I had a test drive in the Tucson 182 diesel auto awd.

I thought it was an excellent car to drive, the steering did feel a bit "loose" in a straight line but so do some other SUV type cars.
It was only the cheap plastic on some of the dash, and those over sized wheel arch trims that stopped me buying one.

I ordered another CX-5 instead but auto this time, I got a very large discount, already had a tow bar to transfer to it saving 450, and a set of 4 spare wheels.
In Australia the Tucson has beaten the CX-5 in all three tests I've seen. And I think its easily the best looking car in that sector.

I test drove both cars here in Toronto. The CX-5 definitely handled much better and provided a better driving experience but at the top trim levels I feel the Tuscon has the CX-5 beat. Power adjustable driver and passenger seats with memory on driver side, power lift gate, front and rear heated seats, heated steering wheel, windshield whiper de-icer, downhill assist. Pretty nice vehicle.

I'm waiting to test drive the new 2016 Rav4 before I make my decision. I'm about 2 months from having to make my deal.

The new tucson is definitely nice and at top levels, does have some awesome features. But coming from Hyundai, I will never by another one. Never had issues but just horrible driving vehicles. Maybe they improved it with this remodel but car reviews all over have a conseus that the cx5 is still at the top for driving experience for these type of cuvs. The extra tech features are tempting but nothing beats a car that is actually fun to drive. And that is why in my book, cx5 all day.

I've had a 2013 Sportage for a week and was happy to get the cx-5 back, I also tested a 2013 santa fe and couldn't get out of the car quick enough, in fact I turned back after 1 mile.

But I really enjoyed driving the Tucson, throwing it at speed round islands its handling felt very reassuring. I tested a lower trim version with the 17" wheel, so not he model with the low profile tyres on 45. and 18" wheels.

And in the UK the standard 8" screen was very good, as was the full sized alloy wheel, with the larger than cx-5 boot (trunk).

I won't trade my CX-5 in for the Tucson but if the CX-5 would include all those feature mention here would be excellent. The Tucson rear seats also recline, rear vents and cool front seats which are nice as well. But to get all those feature, one would have to get the top model of the Tucson. Maybe newer model CX-5 would have some of it, bring some features from Europe and Asia to NA would be a good start for the CX-5.

Just Traded in a 2013 Kia Sorento Limited Edition with 41K miles on it for a 2016 CX-GT with Tech.
I test drove a Tucson...no comparison to the CX-5 in handling...none...
I like Car and Driver's phrase...you either have "Chassis Chops"or you don't..
Just my opinion, but I got tired as hell of driving a box on wheels that was loaded with amenities...
90% + of Americans want to drive couches on wheels that are loaded with heavy power consuming crap in it...not me, not anymore...
I'm done turning the steering wheel, feeling the lean, and waiting for the heavy steel box to make the turn....
Keep the Power Passenger seat and everything else...
I feel the road again, I'm smiling while I drive, and I can't wait to drive to work and drive home again...
Never had a Mazda before this..
I got hooked by driving my son's 2013 Mazda 3 iSport..what a blast to drive!
Driving DOES Matter!
Zoom Zoom, baby!

The CX-5 handling for sure is the best compare to other CUV out there, the reason we bought the CX-5. It would be nice to have Zoom Zoom and nice features at the same time.

It's a Hyundai. I just couldn't. I think the only CUV in this category that hands-down trumps the CX-5 is the Forester 2.0XT, and it takes premium and gets worse mileage, for people who care about such things. Go up in price a touch, and you have other options of course. Down in price, and you just have junk. I'd buy a better, used, rather than new, less than, when we are talking CX-5 money. (EX: I'd buy a used GLK350 before I bought a new Hyundai/Kia)

The only one of those features I care about is the seat memory. The rest of it, who cares. Power lift gate? Really? Might as well motorize the drivers door too.

Agreed. Heated seats and steeringwheel are kindof nice, but not worth much in the scheme of things, although the seats...I do like heated seats. Kindof miss them, but hate sunroofs more than I like heated seats.

The new 2016 Tucson is significantly better from the previous gen it replaces. The engine you want is the 1.6T, not the base 2L and probably the best configuration to be had is the Eco. If you don't pick the Eco you'll get industry trailing fuel economy as bad as 21 / 26 / 23 for the 2L AWD or as not-so-good 25 / 30 / 27 for the 1.6T FWD. However, you do get wide 19-inch 245/45R19 with best in segment (including the CX-5) lateral grip. If you pick the Eco (1.6T) you'd get 26 / 33 / 29 FWD or 25 / 31 / 27 AWD which is tiny bit better than the CX-5 (if it can be really achieved) and standard 225/60R17 tires, with less grip.

In terms of features, all you guys that buy a car for these (I don't), should strongly consider this vehicle. It can be very nicely equipped. A good selling point for me would be the reclining back seats and larger cargo volume. However, strangely, Android Auto or Apple's system are not available.

In terms of driving, as others have said, steering is not very good and the transmission is slow non-DCT like.

In the UK that petrol comes with a 7 speed DSG.
And I didn't want those tyres, I won't have a car with 45 profile again.

As I said earlier it was only a few minor reasons for why I didn't buy one, diesel was my choice but its only a 6 speed auto.
