2015 CX-5 Electrical/startup problems - anyone else?

A couple of months ago, I have replaced my wife's battery, in her CRV and when I have seen that battery, I though that they are joking. It looks like a bike battery.

This happened to me once ('14 GT). I had parked it for the weekend and it wouldn't start on Monday. I finally figured out that I had left the cargo compartment light on and it had drained the battery. Didn't notice it because I have a cargo cover and the light output is so tiny from that light anyway who would notice? After I shut off the light and recharged the battery, I haven't had the issue again. Oh, and I replaced the cargo light with an LED so it's much brighter now. Hope that helps.

Several times when using the sunglass holder I have bumped the light switch and left it on - you only use the sunglass holder in the bright daylight when you might miss that the light is on, also if the door is open when you store the glasses the light is already on so you do not notice it. This car should have an automatic shut off/battery saver switch light my 2000 Corvette.

Update: After 4 days at the service center the problem was replicated and finally traced back to the Sky Link unit. (Sky Link = aftermarket tracking device sold to me and installed by the Mazda dealer...not to be confused with SkyActiv!) I had asked them to look at the Sky Link the first two times the battery was dead and I guess they didn't think that was the problem. I had also called Sky Link and asked for an explanation about how the unit works and whether it was possible that the unit could be draining my battery (their answer was that it would take a much longer period of time for the unit to completely discharge my battery so there's no way it could be the Sky Link unit....wrong!)

The good news is that it seems like the problem was not a defect of the car itself. (Hesitant YAY!) However, I'm holding my breath on that for the next few weeks given that it has taken that long for the problem to show up each time.

well, I cut a wire to the horn on the wire bundle going thru the firewall on accident, cost me $350 to fix.

Labour of taking the wiring bundle out and finding which wire (s) were nipped.

Any aftermarket device that requires cutting into the wiring harness (remote start, alarm, etc...) is asking for trouble. Cable harnesses were designed to tolerate vibration and chafing. When an aftermarket technician, or even the dealer, cut into them, they are compromised. It may work fine for a long time, but its trouble waiting to happen down the road. There is nothing more difficult to fix in a car than a bad wiring harness.

My neighbor and I both purchased 2015 Madza cx-5. Mine is less than a year old with 15,000 miles. Her's is a 2 months older. We both have had dead batteries. I just drove it 500 miles 2 days ago so the battery shouldn't be dead. Anyone else have this problem? I am having it towed to the dealership. They gain that no one else has complained about this to them.

Did you put a bigger battery in? There is room for a much larger battery than what Honda installs.

Joking or not, that tiny and light weighted Honda battery for CR-V warrantied for 100 months with free replacement for 36 months. That is the best battery warranty I have ever seen. Our '98 Honda CR-V is on the third one after the factory battery died in about 5 years. For 5-year average battery life in hot Texas weather I have no complaints.

I find it easy to unknowingly bump the light switch on and leave the interior light on when replacing my sunglasses in the holder. In my 2013 it would drain the battery if I did not notice and turn it off. Reading the book on the 2016 it appears they now have a battery minder that turns off the light after a reasonable length of time...
