2010 Mazda 3 s Grand Touring Sedan SEMA First Drive

the SEMA 3 looks so awesome - it almost makes me wish I got mine in white. I'm looking forward to Tri-Point releasing a turbo kit for the 2.5L!

That's pretty sick, I think it would so be a sleeper, of course minus the paint on the calipers as a dead give away.

"Our seat-of-the-pants guesstimate for this SEMA car suggests upward of 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. And as long as we're prognosticating, we'd peg this MS3 SEMA sedan at 5.8 seconds to 60 mph with a quarter-mile performance of 13.5 seconds at 105 mph"

WTFBBQ?

Oddly enough, I think ill keep my MS3 hatch that runs near the same 0-60 and ET, rather than that 35k showpiece that according to the article handles and rides like crap in the real world.

keep in mind this was apparently a really quick job that they didn't quite fine tune. I'm sure they could get much better hp and 1/4 mi. time with more tuning, especially since the Garrett GT2871R supports up to 400 hp, and they were only running 10 psi boost.

I guess its just a question of doing something just because its hard.

They could have just swapped in the MS3 motor and done some tuning on that and acheived similar, if not better, results.

But I would like to see them make a MS3 Sedan.. that woulda been sweet

actually, the port injected MZR has more hp potential than the DISI MZR found in the Speed3 (I forget the reasoning behind that, but iirc, I've seen it explained on these forums in another thread). also, keep in mind that the Mz3 motor is a bored and stroked version of the MS3 motor (2.5L versus 2.3L) - so it's also starting with more hp. also, you're not going to get better results with the MS3 stock K04 turbo - if you've been paying attention around these forums, you'll notice that the K04 is not a quality turbo, & many MS3 owners have been experiencing problems, whereas, iirc, the Garrett turbo that Tri-Point used is a high quality, ball-bearing turbo. and like I said above, they were only running 10 psi boost - I'm sure they could do way better than that with a little more tuning.

I also wish Mazda would make a MS3 sedan... but hopefully Tri-Point will release their turbo kit for the 2.5L engine!

looks like this isn't going to happen, at least not any time soon. I PMed Nicole from Tri-Point the other day, and she responded that they don't know if they're going to make a kit for the 2.5L. (dunno)

Hey fate.. sorry, I had a major brain fart and forgot the 2010 changed engines.

Wonder why Mazda didnt change the engine choice in the 2010 speed3 to match?

I love the sedan. I wouldn't hesitate to trade up if they came out with a sedan version of the MS3.

I was wondering that myself. Perhaps they wanted an engine in the 3s to better compete with other manufacturers' vehicles, and didn't feel it was necessary for the MS3?
