I am in the market for an SUV and almost narrowed it down to CX-9. In specific, I am looking at a 2010 CX-9 AWD, Crystal White/Sand, Nav, Bose, Back Up camera, Power Liftgate with 33k miles (non-CPO) - dealer is asking for $21,495.

What do you guys think about the price ?

manutod, welcome! that is a good price, because my 08' NADA current retail value is somewhere around there. If you are ready to pull the trigger, the first thing you need to do is crawl underneath the vehicle, and inspect 2 things 1) The transfer case (this is in the rear of the transmission and connects to the driveshaft which runs to the back of the vehicle. If that sucker is leaking oil, you either need to walk away or get them to replace it. 2) the rear differential. (rear of vehicle, between the wheels, under the floor) Same story, any fluid, and you either need to walk away or get them to replace it.

Some have had no problems with their AWD, but many have. The rear diff had some issues with earlier models (07 - 08 or 09 I believe), but the transfer case has been giving folks grief for all model years.

While the transmission/transaxle assembly is a high quality Aisin transmission and is dependable, durable and reliable, unfortunately the transfer case is a Ford part, exact part interchange with the Ford Edge and is not reliable or dependable, based on what has been posted on here.

So if there are no signs of leaking from the rear diff or the transfer case, jump on the deal!

Then pack up your new CX-9 and get out of NoVA as fast as you can like I did!

Thanks for your reply helbigtw !

Well, I have inspected it and there appears to be no signs of any oil leakage (on the driveway/parking lot). Apart from that, the Carfax looks fine, though its not a yardstick for reliability- one owner, personal lease vehicle.

I might pull the trigger if we agree on $21,500 OTD. And right away, looking to add roof rails - Any comments/suggestions ?

Sounds good. If you decide to get crossbars, I would go with aftermarket crossbars. Oem roof rails do not come with crossbars. My mountain bike Yakima Forklift tray sitting on OEM crossbars sits at an angle so my bike is at about a 10 or 15 degree angle. OEM crossbars are curved. Also, if it does not already have all weather mats, they are a must have. Unfortunately the driver mat wears through within 3 years, so get Weathertech mats. If you notice the window rolls down and stops suddenly, that is the default smokers position. Apparently Mazda thinks the majority of owners are smokers. Owners manual should show you how to change the auto down preference. Good luck!

I was in looking for 2010 Mazda CX 9 too. After checking in multiple dealers, found Grand Touring with 40,000 miles for $25,000. Negotiated and the manager offered for $23,000. Thought it was a pretty good price for Grand Touring with all feathers - Bose sound system, navi, auto-rain sensor, blind spot monitor, backup camera and many more. I bought it and now I am a proud owner of Mazda CX 9 :)
What do you guyz think about the pricing?

Congrats on your purchase. Don't second guess yourself on the price. Just be happy with your vehicle. Besides, lots of factors play into cost: condition; warranty; CPO; geographic location. I live in MD, but my wife and I had to go to NC to buy our CX-9. Just couldn't find a FWD north of Richmond, VA. Since I'm from NC, we just decided to go there and drop the kids at my parents while we hammered out the deal. One thing I know for sure is that we got this vehicle for several thousand less than we would have if we purchased it in MD (based on dealer list prices). We were actually shopping for a Touring, so we are really happy with our purchase. I just wasn't convinced that we'd need AWD in MD, and all the great info on these boards really helped me make that decision.

Oh, I should add that we almost bought a 10 CX-9 Touring FWD with 25k miles from CarMax. Glad we decided against it (just a gut feeling). Turns out, CarMax was NOT a good value for us. Their 2010 Touring was only $1,000 less than our 2011 GT with 3k fewer miles! And, of course, they were pushing their warranty for an additional $1,500!

So, did you end up taking warranty or not? The dealer was insisted me to take and I took 100,000 mile warranty. I am still wondering if I should keep it or cancel it. Any thoughts?

As a CPO, the 100K warranty is included. Keep in mind that's 100K from 0 miles or original sale date, not 100K on top of where you bought the car. We did go for the extended warranty, which I was against. They broke my wife, so I had to cave at that point. My mother-in-law had some electrical issues with her Lexus and all my wife could think about was how much it cost her mom for the repairs. But now my wife has total peace of mind, so it was worth it for that alone. Doubt we'll ever need it -- just gravy on the dealer's plate.
