2008 Mazda5: SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES!!!!

So manual is now only offered on the Sport, and even then in only three exterior colors? Is the new tan interior available? Also, can a Sport be ordered with a sunroof?

In the Sport model:
Sunlight Silver (22V) >> Black Cloth (CC5)
Galaxy Gray (32S) >> Black Cloth (CC5)
Copper Red (32V) >> Sand Cloth (CC4)

Moonroof (MR1) is as an option and requires the Popular Equipment Package (1PE), both options ARE NOT offered on the 5MT models only the automatic transimission !

BTW...all this information is directly from the 08MY MAZDA5 Spec Desk (9-04-07) from the dealership.

Yet another reason I'm happy I got an '07! (cabpatch)

Where did you see this?

Edmunds let's you build an '08 Sport 5m and choose Brilliant Black, Copper Red, Galaxy Grey, Golden Sand, Stormy Blue and Sunlight Silver.

This information is listed on a page titled "2008 MAZDA5 Interior & Exterior Colors" from the "MNAO Product and Planning Strategy" in the "08MY MAZDA5 Spec Deck (9-04-07 v.1)".

I bought a new 08 GT last week, but first I tried buying a Brilliant Black Touring with Manual Transmission, I was denied on multiple fronts...argghh very frustrating.

They're screwing up big time....that's all I gotta say....(smash)

Argggh, these guys, all the combinations look like they are cornering you to get an auto. I am considering trading my old Honda for a 2nd Mazda5 next year but it seems I would only have 2 choices left (Sunlight Silver (22V) >> Black Cloth (CC5) or Galaxy Gray (32S) >> Black Cloth (CC5)). Auto is a NO-NO for wifey. Popular package and fogs made a big difference on my '06.

Don't care about the sunroof, but fog lights to make it look decent to say the least. Otherwise, other car will be, damn you Mazda (pissed)

At least you can get everything in the Popular package and fogs as acce$$orie$. The AUX input sort of makes up for the lack of a CD changer.

Fogs aren't too difficult to put in, I only broke one plastic clip in the process ;)

Yup, good point, the Aux should really help. For fogs, skirts and spoiler adds I'm so lazy to do any car work nowadays (sleep), but I may consider it.

My other worry is that the few area dealers may not bring "bare" 5MT Sport MZ5s as they don't sell well around here (i.e. like in Canada or California), so I may also need to also drive somewhere "far" to get the one I want. I don't feel like pre-ordering, apart from price it just looks like a pain from what I've read around here and from friends' experience (not just Mazdas, but other brands).

:(

LARGE photos of 2008 available at Flickr

I noticed that Flickr have the photos that were on the blog link a few pages back, only you can select to view them 'ALL SIZES' which gives you a zoom version better than the blog flash ones. It would appear that you can also download the large images.

In fact, the zoom is so good that you can see the Toyo tires and the 'Aux In' wording!

Same here.

I had not luck finding a 5MT model locally when shopping for MZ5.

Switches on the console

Check out the picture showing all of the seats folded down, viewed through the open hatch. What are the 2 switches in front of the open tray on the console? Heated seat switches?

It looks like that to me. The leather option comes with heated seats, and there are no switches on the dashboard, so you are probably correct. The 3 switches at the rear of the console, I guess, are the controls for the rear heating/AC ducts.

This looks like a 2008 JDM model. Whatever the case, check out this picture:

What is that antenna thing?

Edit: Figured out what it is here in another photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hiromori2/1562629650/in/photostream/

LOL! This is what it says it is used for: This pole is for informing to the driver where the left corner of the dody is. It is necessity for my wife :)

I'm really liking the front end...wonder if we could fit it on a 07 model??? What do you guys think? Cuz if it's possible, I'll be one of the first to get one. (cool)

The more I see the 2008, the more I like it. The stained-glass tails are growing on me too, despite first impressions.

You may be right, I want to see them in person. When I saw the first Subaru WRX LED taillight pics on the Web I thought they were ugly, but then, the other day, I was behind one at a traffic light (brakes engaging) and they looked much better (though I cannot say the same thing about its driver, his music and his MT skills :p)
