2008 Mazda5: SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES!!!!

But yeah im thinking i may want to upgrade too. I'll definitely be upside down on my loan but my credit is much better now so i might be able to break even on my payment. Friggin sweet. Im most excited about the passenger side arm rest, 5th gear auto, and touch screen navi.

This is as official as it gets from the US point of view. The Canadian models, we'll have to see. Mazda Canada isn't very forthcoming with this kind of information.

One question though: In the US, "True Silver" is the equivalent to "Platinum Silver", correct?

the info *is* official as it comes direct from mazda usa

I have to believe that the vents will be able to be put in the older models, as well as the fan controls. The arm rests also should be able to be retrofitted, here's to wishing.

I know how you feel, trust me... but I think that may be a bad move. I'm pretty sure you'd lose several thousand on the transaction. You're money, but just make sure the extra features would be worth the amount you'd get upside down with. A better credit rating will help, but I'd be surprised if it'd compensate for the difference.

....instead, you could always invest in rims, HID, tint, etc ;)

It is anything like our TRUE RED on the speed 3 I will say no.... guess we will see.

No Changes in Canada as of now.

Slow down cowboys. I am willing to bet that the 5 speed auto is not a big deal on performance or economy. Armrest is not a big deal unless you are the passenger ;) The rest is nice but not "mandatory". Don't go tradin' in what you've got...

Well I'll concede that Honda's are engineered better than Mazda's, IMO, but the 5spd Auto in the new Civics get better fuel economy ratings than their 5spd MT. It really all depends on the ratios.

But from what I understand, the 5AT Civics are slugs off of the line, and at throttle tip in, IE when trying to pass someone. You have to give up some power, to get the fuel economy.

Ditto Jandree, I agree with you. I still see some things in my "old" 5MT Honda that I wish they would be present in my 5MT MZ5, but hey, I can live with the trade-off, less engineered design and fuel economy but much more zoom-zoom (eekdance).

As apples to apples goes I've also driven my sis' 5MT Honda which can be considered a more recent piece of engineering. Still, I feel its boring (now, get me one of those new Civic SIs and I'll think seriously about it :D)

Stability Control?

Stability control is mandated for 2012, last I checked.

Who needs this? (yawn)

Isn't this for those high-end electrically defective Euro-built cars?

Oh Canada...

The US still likes gas guzzling SUVs. We don't even have the Smart Car yet! Mazda can't offer all those options here. They'd have to ship the surplus to Canada to sell! (breakn)

Man oh Man... I still can't get over the differences between your US model and our Canadian model..

Sure colors are different at times but I have to say our stock units seemed to have what you all call "NEW" except armrests nav etc.

We all should wait for OFFICIAL docs to come out. From a canadian prospective "NOTHING" has changed .... not to say color changes for sure.

I, for one, would have purchased ESC if it were available as an option. Unlike ABS, ESC has been proven to prevent accidents in the real world. Mazda makes it standard on the upper grades of the 3 in NA.

"Who needs this?"
I remember people saying the same about ABS (would you buy a car without ABS today?)
Stability Control has been proven to prevent loss of control in emergency maneuvers. It costs the car manufacturer $300-400 to include it on a vehicle.
There's no reason Not to want every available safety feature in your car. JMO of course.

Colors are up:

Yeah it's officially official. Otherwise it would have been labelled "Preliminary Draft". The gear ratios and mileage numbers are the only thing that are "TBA".

Oh, and the Job Date is October 2007. Loooooong wait to see what they're gonna look like.
