2008 Mazda5 GT on order!

My wife and I have been looking for a new car for a while. We actually test drove Mazda5 a couple years back when it was first introduced, but she felt it was slightly underpowered. After looking at full sized Minivans, Toyota RAV4 and many other CUVs, she finally decided to put down a deposit for a Mazda5.

Thanks to everyone's contribution to this forum, I was able to learn quite a bit about the car before heading over to the dealership. The car is nimble, relatively roomy in the 3rd row (move the 2nd row forward), with the middle passthrough and sliding door really convinced the wife.

The car will be here around Christmas (Perhaps Mazda can throw in a big red bow), but before it happens, I got a couple questions:

1. Did everyone else pay advertising fee? How much was it?

2. Has anyone tried to install dynamat (sound insulation)? Was it hard or easy to do? Anyone have diagrams/manual that shows assembly/disassembly of door trims and carpet?

3. I have read quite a bit about turbo chargers, and it seems that though possible, I have yet to see it on Mazda5, nor is it recommended with AT. Is there an example on the net that proves otherwise? I am not looking for that much power boost, just a bit more torque off the line would be good enough. I thought about CAI or chips, but they mostly deteriate low end performance for peak output, which is exactly the opposite of what I am aiming for. I welcome any other ideas.

4. Any recommendation on where to order Mazda accessories? We are thinking about cargo cover, bumper guard, and nets for the trunk.

Thanks again for all the info,

Thugus.

I have a CAI on my MZ5 w/ MT. I notice no lack of performance. In fact, mine is quicker (smokes tires), gets better fuel mileage and cleaner emissions. A turbo isn't going to help you off the line... until you get to about 15 mph.

I paid no advert fee. They don't even advertise the 5. LOL

You can install the insulation just like the guys in the 3 forum do.

Thanks for the CAI info. Where did you order the K&N CAI from?

I was also wondering if anyone knows where to get a Mazda5 service manual. Perhaps I can order it online?

Thanks,

Thugus.

Nice. You will love it

1. Did everyone else pay advertising fee? How much was it?

No. What the heck is that? Nobody advertises the dang thing anyway, LOL

This is what I see in my purchase docs:

  • Sales tax (whatever your State tax will be over the car: total minus your trade-in)
  • document fees ($55)
  • registration fees ($30)
  • transfer fee ($52)
  • title fee ($22.50)
  • State tire fee ($5), my State is obligatory

I would check with the recommended forum vendors first: (http://www.mazdav.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=130).

I've also seen those on mazdastuff.com, reasonably priced. I've never ordered from there though.

Ooops, GT or Grand Touring? If GT, Canada, then substitute Tax for GST/TPS and State for Province :D.

Different costs for each of course, but I hope at least "helps" you to negotiate what to pay and what not :(

Thanks for all the info! Looks like a workshop manual is ~$140 from onlinemazdaparts.com, though 2008 is not available yet.

I am in San Francisco, California, so it is a 2008 Mazda5 Grand Touring, though I thought GT is short for Grand Touring. What are the differences?
