2007 M3 Engine meltdown!!...

Hello everyone well I am new here and its desperate times that bring me to this forum.

I have a 2007 Mazda 3 w/16K miles on it and as of a few days ago my Engine kicked the bucket and blew out a cylinder or rod. Not sure exactly. Anyway the dealership towed it in and said it has a blown cylinder. It makes a ton of metal to metal clucky sound when it runs. Well I have had the car serviced twice at the recommended mileage and looks like I went about 1500miles past my last oil checkup. Soooo as you can imagine the dealership will not cover anything and said so sorry bring the rental car back, pay us for it and oh we need $7900 bucks to install a new engine.

So after screaming every cussword in the book at them, I am left without a car thats going to cost a fortune to fix that I still have to make payments on. Yeah I know its my bad for not doing the oil change on time and I am screwed by their nice fine print contract. (strike)

So here is my questions What should I expect them to tell me what a new engine cost if I do the install, how much should a used one cost if I can find one and what are the differences with the MS3 vs. the M3 can I put a MazdaSpeed engine in it and maybe get something more for my money?

Any suggestions one what I can or should do?

Thanks,
-Neal

You can try Ken at www.Protegegarage.com since he has alot of sources or and online junkyard that usually do some type of warranty like www.car-parts.com .

Hey thanks for those links Is it difficult to get things like gasket kits and rebuild kits for a 2.3 engine? Honestly I never really got into 4 cylinders much so not sure how hard it is to rebuild a new model engine like this. If I have to spend $7K+ on a new engine then its going to have more power and torque and defiantly not break for no reason. Thanks for the link

First off do you have a pool of oil under your car? If so you need a new/used block!

It will most likely be much cheaper to get a low mileage salvaged motor swapped in.

Please change the title of your post, you do not have an M3, that acronym is reserved for BMW, particularly the BMW M3. It is not to be related to your Mazda3.

Thanks

how many miles since your last oil change?

almost 7K I was suposed to bring it in at 5K...

The crapy thing is i believe we took it in to one of those mom and pop Jiffy lubes type places on our way out of town about three months ago. But now I cant get anyone at the place to call me back or even if its still open. I was hoping they had a record or something of the oil change. I cant even remember if I took it in or not my wife says we did but the place is way out of town so I cant just drive over there and see.

Please remove the sand from your vagina. Thanks.

Dude, if there is a chance that you changed the oil in time, I would make the effort to go and check even if it's a little out of the way. If it will save you $7k then go and make sure.

Yeah no oil under the car no leaks no oil loss at all. To me the engine sounds like a Valve train issue rather than the piston as the master mechanic says. Usually in a V8 if you dropped a rod or broke a piston then the engine would not turnover or would lock up. Lots of bad things happen.

Yeah If I can find a good used motor then I think I will go that route.

Whoa! man I have been driving this car for a year now thinking it was a BMW M3 Thanks for clearing this up.

LOL are you CRAZY!? (hah)

I see on these forums all over the place and including other website refer to the Mazda3 as M3 and MS3, I think when your on a strictly Mazda site its auto assumed that M3 = Mazda3. But I guess there are those folks that cannot process such obvious differences.

Dude please (fu)

You dont keep recipits of all that crap in your glove box? I keep all service related crap in my glove box.

Edit: Also if you put it on your credit/debit card look up the transaction number and ive that place that serviced the car that number. That should help them locate the record that much faster.

if you can't afford it, why don't you go through insurance, I've seen that route taken before at my dealer

I already talked to the insurance company and it kind of a sticky spot. It needs to be totaled out or some kind of claim or police report on it. Basically if its not accident related then they dont want to cover it. I may just leave the keys in it and leave it somewhere bad side of town for a little joyriding maybe?... hehe. Thats a joke son.... (dunno)

I can afford to replace the engine but its the principle of the thing... I did nothing wrong and it just died while going home from work. Oil does not break down that much to do that and its obvious there is some problem with the engine.

Thanks for the sugestion though...

Well I do keep the receipts and have all the other records as I have always taking it to the dealership for the tune ups. But we went out of town and had it done on the way out. And when you have two kids in the back and trying to entertain them all the time you tend to not keep track of things as well. Hell I dont know I dont even remember the trip that much it was our first one with our 2 year old and 5 year old. 6 hours in the car man I tuned the whole trip out. LOL

To your edit Yeah we found the place, its up to them to find it in their records. Thats a good idea though.

So what’s involved in changing a Mazda3 into a MazdaSpeed3? What do I need?

-New computer?
-New wiring harness?
-New exhaust?

What would it take? And is it worth it.

Is the 5 speed different…?

And how the hell to you Heal-Toe these cars… man its impossible on the track.

Here's my thing, what if yo do you own oil changes. Are you supposed to Keep record's of that to. I think they are just looking for a reason not cover the problem.

The Mazda3 has been referred to as an M3 many times before. Who cares
