2007 Mazda5
...no, I'm not gonna tell you it's coming to the US in 2007, because it doesn't look like it will... right away anyhow. What I will say is if it does, it'll probably be stiff competition for the Mazda5, in the states anyways where Honda outnumbers Mazda 10:1. With the exception of the conventional rear doors (a big exception, IMO) I think it looks incredible. If it does arrive on these shores, my guess is it'll start about the same base price as the Mazda5, but they'll probably set the price point higher for the EX and/or EX-L trims than the equivelant Mazda5 GT. If they have it available in AWD, that'll be a bugger for the Mazda5, but then again, that in itself will probably push the price up another grand or two easy.

Like I said, I think I'd consider it if it was definately coming to the US and had sliding rear doors, but who knows if/when it'll ever come and the traditional doors with a third row seat are a mess IMO. That being said, I still think it's styling is amazing, JMHO though. ;)

I agree with you that it's an interesting looking car.

However, I think they missed the boat on not having the rear sliding doors. I know that it makes the 5 look like a mini-minivan, but the utility of the rear sliding doors rocks!

I'm also doubtful that Honda will bring it here as an AWD. I think the extra cost associated with the AWD and the reduced gas mileage will keep Honda from offering it.

Did you noticed that it doesn't appear to have rear a/c either? The a/c in the Hondas I've owned in the past hasn't been that strong either... I wonder if they get the same weak a/c performance complaint?

To tell you the truth, before I bought the 5 I had always been a Honda man. But a number of factors drew me to the 5 (price, mileage, size, styling, handling etc.) and simply could not be beat. If this were offered here, I would probably give this a look if the price was right. Just being a Honda tho, I'm almost sure that it would be priced much higher. I'd say mid-20's to low 30's at least.

I like the styling, but it def. needs sliding doors. Is it just me or do the 3rd row seats look hard and uncomfortable? And the D-pillar is thick, major blind spot!

Now that I have my 5 though, they would have to do a lot to get me to let go of the zoom-zoom. I'm hooked! This car just fits my life right now so perfectly (married with 2 young kids). When I go to drive my 01 accord... it feels so numb and souless... but at least it's cushy...

I could not agree more with you! 50% of the whole reason my wife loves her Mazda 5 is the rear sliding door, which makes the in-and-out with the kid a whole new pleasant experience. A similar vehicle with no sliding door is, as you said, missing a big point.....

But then there is the controversy. I read somewhere that the Mazda 5 was targeting the teens with the surfs, etc. Like in the past the Honda Element (when it came out). Funny enough (if all that is true) - looks like in this site there are more folks with kids in mid age than teens with surfs. Maybe they will come later.... when Mazda turbo-charges the 5. LOL

HAHA, I love Honda's idiotic TOWER OF LIGHTS!! I spit out in laughter every time a CRV drives by me with those moronic and poorly designed tower of lights that span nearly the total rear of the vehicle.

Yeah...safety is gay. Volvo wagons have them, Focus's have them...tons of euro cars have those tall ass taillights.

I think they look much nicer than the 5's sweet altezzas which are what, inches shorter than Honda's tower of lights. Regardless, several companies have tails like that (the XC70 comes to mind). The design actually makes the rear end of these vehicles more visible so yeah, completely moronic. Just like the that moronic beep that reminds 5 owners to practice safety by wearing their seat belts.

They have the Odyssey for that, although you can get that loaded up to mid 30's. If they're bringing that here it will be priced competitive to the Mazda5 IMO. (cheers)

The target market for the 5 is young families...LOL.

I wonder what the dimensions are on that thing. It looks a lot longer than the 5.

Really? You think so? It looks like a civic with a different rear end.

I'd guess that it would be around 190 in or so. Roughly the same size as the CRV.

I read somewhere it'll have a 1.8L in it, in whatever coutries it's going to be sold in. But remember, the Mazda5 uses a 1.8L in other countries but a 2.3L here.

Hmm, k, yea. Not sure how a safety belt reminder is relative compared to a design implementation of tail lights that run the vertical span of the rear of a vehicle? A tail light that's 4' tall is no better than one that's 6" tall. And those lights are MUCH taller than the 5's sweet tails.

Dunno, IMO it looks like a bloated station wagon to me. If worst comes to worst and competitors were present in NA I would go for the contender Toyota Wish instead (or even a GM Zafira) but I really like the fact that Mazda added to the Mazda5 the Zoom-Zoom spice to it. Mazda5 is not an RX-8 nor a MazdaSpeed, but it is not a boring looking car.

Point in case: Just add the sliding door to the Stream, and that thing really looks like a pure minivan.
