2007 Honda Stream

Here's another vehicle that I would have looked at if it were available here:
the Honda FR-V/Edix (JDM), seats 6 in 2 rows. At 4285mm = 168in, it's more than a foot shorter than a MZ5, and 1810mm = 2" wider.

It's nice. We could use more cars in this segment. Hatches are all the rage right now, which is unusual for America. It seems to me that tall wagons/micro vans should be growing on people more than they are right now. Honda's generally perform quite well. I'm sure we would have considered this when we were shopping around.

Marketing guys will be wondering how it will affect the sales of the low-end configuration of the Odyssey.

Not to mention overlap with the CR-V, as the FR-V also has an I4 with available AWD, and Honda's diesel too.

As for future variants of the MZ5, how about more economical? such as the DISI 2.0 + dual clutch transmission, or the next version of the Ford hybrid setup seen in the Escape/Mariner/Tribute?

Minivan look

My neighbors and friends were actually surprised to see the rear doors of my 5 were sliding. They didn't notice it at first.

I agree with you that it's an interesting looking car.

However, I think they missed the boat on not having the rear sliding doors. I know that it makes the 5 look like a mini-minivan, but the utility of the rear sliding doors rocks!

I'm also doubtful that Honda will bring it here as an AWD. I think the extra cost associated with the AWD and the reduced gas mileage will keep Honda from offering it.

Did you noticed that it doesn't appear to have rear a/c either? The a/c in the Hondas I've owned in the past hasn't been that strong either... I wonder if they get the same weak a/c performance complaint?

Now THAT'S interesting and I'd buy! Just have to keep the sliders (doors) on the read.

If the size of the Stream is anything near the MZ5, I'd say it shouldn't really affect the Odyssey - totally different sized vehicles. The current Odyssey is HUGE. When I get in my Father's Odyssey after riding in our MZ5, it feels weird, especially in the front. I'd say that they could coexist even if the high-end Stream is close in price to the low-end Odyssey. "Do you want small and sporty or cavernous and cushy?"

Stream looks very cool! I like the look a bit more than the 5, the front looks a bit more aggressive.

You know, I just don't think Ford wants Mazda to succeed very well.

Why would you want to compete with yourself?

JMHO

i just mentioned something like this in another thread. But i recently saw a ford fusion commercial where they said "The Fusion was voted the funnest car to drive in its class**"

the fine print read "**Excluding Mazda6"

Weird. 5 seat large station wagon? Tons of space not really used...

This is nice :D:
