2006 MX-5 Steering Wheel Installed

I had the steering wheel installed last week. It took the guy about 5 to 10 minutes to do. I think the only special tool you need is a steering wheel puller. You can rent one for free from AutoZone. You don't even need to disconnect the battery. Everything plugged right in. It is the exact same wheel except that it is leather and has silver inserts on the spokes. I will post a picture soon.

The guy I got mine from on eBay has one more listed. It also states in the auction that this is the last one that he will be listing. Well worth the $15.50 I spent on it! Here is the link...

Wow, you are brave. I have seen the end result of a seat airbag from a Millenia that went off at the dealership due to the tech not disconnecting the battery. The Millenia might be different, but there is a whole procedure to deenergize the airbag system. BTW, the tech ended up with a broken arm and 2nd degree burns on his arm.

I thought the CX-7 had the MX-5's steering wheel...???

It does, but my CX-7 Sport has a plain black hard plastic steering wheel. The one I put on is off of a MX-5 GT. It is leather with silver inserts on the three spokes. Matches my MX-5 now. BTW the silver inserts do match the silver trim in the car and it uses the same airbag.

The guy who did the install does this stuff all day long. We make concept/show cars where I work. He even showed me the wire that you would have to cross to set it off. It is connected by a harness and not a bare wire. If I were doing it myself I would disconnect the battery since I don't know what to expect. (shocked)

I would pay no more than $20 for someone to do the install for you. It is that simple and quick.
