2005 Pontiac GTO

I guess you have not driven a GTO?

Subsequently, don't expect the GTO to two-step like a Corvette. There's more sponge in the steering, more roll in the tires, more lean and bob in the body.
Hey it's fast but it sure ain't no cornering monster.

You can bet it is fast, I have an 04 quicksilver GTO 6M, and it is an absolute rush to plant the pedal and just hold on to the wheel. It is not a cornering specialist, but it is the perfect highway runner. The car is rock solid at 120 and is quiet and smooth at that point. I agree that the marketing on the GTO was terrible, and the price was too high ( I leased mine for $180.00 a month for two years) The original idea was to just bring the car over and use what was at the time "cheap" Australian labor. Then the Australian dollar went through the roof and a $25,000.00 car became a $33,000.00 car. The real beauty of the vehicle is that next to nobody knows what it is. Every little VTEC in this burg has pulled up next to me and tried to take their piece out of my a@#, only to have it handed to them before we even hit three hundred feet. If you are looking to impress people, it is not the car for you. If you are looking for one of the stealthiest high speed cars on the planet, then sign up and drive. Oh yeah, the mileage absolutely blows!! I am happy when I get 15mpg, I have hit a low of 12 and a high of 26.

i'm sure the around-town mileage takes a hit, but what sort of mileage do you usually get cruising on the highway (steady ~75mph)?

hmmm i guess it depends on how you drive it

my father in law's 1999 Deville with the northstar v8 does maybe 14 to 16mpg city driving but he can get as much as 25mpg on the highway. Cruising at 70mph @ about 1800rpm ... i've seen it do 30mpg while following a big truck (aspiration helps)
