I got a newspaper article on the new 2002 protege mp3. It didn't say how many were being run, but it's the same exact car except...
1-it has different rims
2-It's brake cals were painted (the blue mp3 had them as yellow)

And no, it didn't have a turbo...it was still 140hp.

Interesting! Perhaps we all just over-reacted a little bit about the whole turbo issue. The important thing about the 2002 model is if they price it appropriately. So long as it is substantially higher priced than ours were, then ours will hold their value well. Did it say how much the MSRP was going to be?

I think MSRP was 18,750. They didn't mention anything about production #s.

I'll try to get it scanned, but no promises...I just got new HDs and installed XP, and I haven't installed my scanner yet.

I remember people refering to my car as a 2002. Some insurance companies were calling it a 2002. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that it was probably a misprint by the newspaper.

Oh, so now I'm a liar? Thanks guys...I thought I earned your trust somehow. It wasn't a misprint either, as I said, it had diff rims and painted calipers. Plus it was on the front page of the auto section...it was their featured car.

yes are car has been mistaken for a 2002...i had problems with the insurance and the dealer saying the year of our cars/ reason being is because it was released in mid of 2001 which makes it a 2002. some places have them marked down as a 2oo1 or 2002.when they make cars they make them a year before and relesae them for the next year. so since ours were done this year and released in the middle of the year it should be a 2002.

There is no 2002 mp3. I saw the article, it is an old picture before they even put the racing harts on. It was a prototype.

Thanks for being on your toes though!

Yeah, that's the pic that's in the paper. Well, then if it IS the 2001, why the hell didn't they mention that only 1500 were being made? And why did they say that the base price was $18,750, when the base for ours is $18,500 or so? I guess this Tim Keane (the author) was really misinformed.
