It's been a month and a bit with the 5. Both the wife and I are lovin it. We are noticing that we don't NEED all the room in our '04 Sienna.
Long story short, now she wants one! In pearl white though.
Part of me is O.K. with the idea, but I don't really want 2 of the same in the garage, seems kinda corny to me.
The '06 3 Sport is nice but, too claustriphobic feeling. The 6 sport & wagon are a tough sell with her as she's not keen on the interior look/feel. The only OTHER car she likes inside and out is the 2006 Accord EX-L-4cyl.(ass-end not so dumpy looking, LED's, nice int.) But more $$.
We like all the 5 offers, and NOT alot do offer that level of equip.(safety, conv.) for the price. Ex. cough..MATRIX..cough!
Input? Suggestions? Sorry for the long babble.

If you got them both the same color, now that would be kinda weird.... I say go for it! Why the heck not? My folks have two minivans, a Venture and an Astro, and some people think they are weird.... They ask, why two minivans?? My Dad just smiles and says, "Why the hell would I want anything else?"

If you and your wife both like it so much and both want one, why have anything else??

Other than, "corny" you didn't speak of any reason why NOT to do it! Hey, it's a great vehicle, it offers what you want for the price you want, I think it's a good move. Besides, with sliding doors on both cars, they won't chip each other in the garage....

Let us know how this saga ends.

I guess I'm a little leery of having 2 5'z.
Lots of "what if's".
What if it turns out to be a little less reliable than I am used to? Then I have potentially 2 problem vehicles to deal with. But I know they have come along way.
What if they bring in a 5 sp. auto within the next year. Or AWD, stabil. control, TURBO!
I wonder about resale as well.
Re-reading my orig. post, I can tell that I am more open to the idea than I thought I really was. I do love it !

We have a Black P5 and a Black Protege Sedan. It's kind of funny to open the door into the garage and see the near-identical front ends sitting there side by side!

One caution to having two of the same. Our cars are different enough to serve slightly different purposes. Her P5 we can fit large, bulky items, like a TV, or a piece of furniture in. My sedan has more room in the trunk, and the trunk is marginally more secure than her hatch, so it's a better shopping or road trip car.

If you have two identical cars, whatever strenths and weaknesses you find in one, are going to be there in the other. If you drive two different vehicles, you'll have a wider range of possibilities open to you.

my suggestion: give her your 5 and you get something else that you want :)

Depends on mileage. I had 2 mazda3's in my driveway (one was a 5 dr S, other was a 4dr i). I bought the 5 and my wife stole it so I gave it to her to use for baby transport and work since i drive a ton of miles, her 3i gets 38mpg hwy so i have no problem with that.

As for your perdicament:
It depends on your mileage and her mileage. If each of you both drive alot of mileage the 5 makes sense as its gonna save you some dough...BUT, the 5 is pretty weak in the power dept, so make sure youre ok with not having a different car to drive on a sunny day where youre feelin spunky, but I guess a 67 Ford mustang fastback would work for that too. :-)
Good luck deciding.

in my brother's community which middle to upper middle class there are a number of people with 2 of the same cars. why not? if you like the car, get it. nothing wrong with that imo.

Looked more @ the '06 3 sport today. I do really like the look of that too. Just that in Canada there is no side/curtain airbags. But if its usually only me driving that, I guess not a big deal since people usually hit me from behind or HEAD ON.
That new medium red mica does look good in person though. Didn't think it would.
I don't freakin know!!!........... I'm getting a headache!
The DW says no rush(ya right), but I want to do my homework and look @ every option.

yeah the red photographs so different from what it looks like. Its really a dark maroony metallic color, but it photographs...well....pink! Probably because its bright outside and the car i shiny. Here is my pink van. :-) The actual color of the van is on the far from door and fender, thats the real color!

Heck, stick with what works for you. For a while we had a dual Subaru household here - 1 Legacy wagon and 1 Impreza Sport wagon - they were both a blast to drive. I'd say try for that 3 - that way you can change it up a little, while still driving basically the same car. The 5's are based on the 3's anyway. The 3's reliability record has been great. If we were in the market for another car - we'd definitely have a 3 and a 5 - great combo.

I currently own a 2004 Subaru WRX STi and my father owns a 2005 Subaru WRX (shutup, going to school)....we are extremely satisfied!

Soon to trade my STi in for a P5, though...

More options are already available...
Well, there is already an all-wheel-drive version of the 5 in -very- limited numbers in Japan. Look for that option to -possibly- show up in the US in the 2007 or 2008 models if the 5 is deemed enough of a success here.

European versions of the 5 offer 4 engine choices plus options for a 7th fold-out seat, rear cameras, back-up sensors and a 2nd row DVD entertainment system. Look for some of those options to appear on 2007 5's as well.

We love our 5 the way it is. I would have paid more to get some of those options if they were offered but bottom line is they weren't and we still love the car without them so we're happy.

If you're concerned about missing out on options why don't you wait it out about 9 months and see what will be offered on the 2007 model? Then you'll have your choice of picking up a new 2006 on clearance (if enough are still available by that time) or getting new options on a 2007.

update:

Wife is eyeing the '06 Civic 4 dr. She really likes it! And it saves $200 a month in payment, so that's really selling her!
I like it.... good safety features, o.k looks inside, etc. But not sold on it.
Especially the front end look.

I think i'm holding out till mid November when the Acura CSX comes out.
I think it might be a better package for me to accept. Better looking front and rear. Just waiting for firm pricing, as its all over the map from what I'm reading on the forums.

BUT, then the 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara seems REAL good in all aspects to me, esp. THE PRICE for a loaded one.

Gee, can you tell I haven't decided sh*t!!! AARRGGHH!
