that synthetic?

Yes; it is synthetic, and it's perhaps the best. Mercedes Benz & Porsche put it in their engines right from the factory.

About $4.50 per qt. at Wal-Mart.

And; 5,000 miles between changes is fine, according to some automotive shop owners I know.

I use 5w30

it is also factory oil in the vette Z06 and the Mustang Cobra R. Thats what i use 10-30.
Although some say to change it every 5 to 7K I do mine every three. I work in a machine shop and I have seen what bad oil will do to an engine.

No. I don't change my oil.....

There is an auto shop down the road from where I live, and they charge $12.00 for the oil/filter change. I bring my Mobil 1 and a Mazda oil filter. Out in 25 minutes, and I trust them! Great people!

Hi Everyone -

Please, please, please change your oil every 3,000 miles. It doesn't matter if the OIL is good for 5,000 or 7,500 miles, the oil FILTER is only good for 3,000 miles. If you push the oil change to 5,000 or 7,500 miles, you are just sending unfiltered oil through the engine.

Cheers.

How much oil does our cars use and did the regular protege oil filter fit our cars?
Does it feel any different with Mobil 1?

Yes, the regular Mazda Protege oil filter fits, but the dealer wants $7.50 for it. It's slightly larger across the back so that a standard 65mm 14 facet oil filter wrench won't fit on it.

You're better off getting a Purolator Pure One PL14612 oil filter, if you can find it. Someone found one at Pep Boys, but the Purolator web site says it's not in production yet. This filter is the highest rated on the SAE multipass filtering efficiency test, and can usually be found for $6 or so. Oh, it's about 3 to 4mm smaller diameter across the o ring where it seals to the block, but it's in the 2003 Purolator book as the one for our MSP.

Anyone put Red Line MT90 in their transmission yet? Or does it share the lube with the differential, so you shouldn't use it?

And has anyone been told when the Service Manual is due out for the MSP?

is it ok to go synthetic this soon?
my dealer told me to wait till 15k miles till synthetic?!?!

I need my first oil change like....asap

dealer said to get it at 1500 miles and im at 1300+ now

if I wait till next weekend will probably be close to 2000.

any reason to get it done at a mazda dealer instead of momNpop or jiffy lube, or ANYwhere for that matter?

what kind of oil does mazda use/should I use?

will I need to supply a filter if i go to a momNpop?

As far as the change to synthetic, I dont' think that changing it at 2k or 15k will be any different...but I do know that my dealer told me not to use synthetic (somthing about not being good for the turbo...but I'm gonna talk to the service mgr on that). Now your telling me that your dealer didn't give you any free oil changes (bad dealer)...anyway, there is no reason you should have mazda do it over anyone else, it's a matter of who you trust. Jiffy Lube is expensive but they clean your car out for you too...the only thing to watch out for at a non-mazda place to do your oil, is weather or not they get the right sized oil filter (seems to be question as to what will and won't work still...other than a mazda oil filter). So if you have a non-mazda place do your oil, you might want to think about getting the filter from mazda and giving it to that shop to put on your car....hope this all makes sence to you.
5W30 or 10W30 is what weight oil to use, and it's up to you as to what you want to put in the car. I still have to do my research on oils, and I'd suggest you do the same.
I'll see you tomorrow.
Peace

Synthetic; not good for the Turbo??!! I have never heard of such a thing!

Any of you get the mazdaspeed key chain for the dealership? Its pretty sweet plus on the back it says I get 10% off parts and service, so my oil change was only $20.00. Screw jiffy lube, Ive heard the fu@kers have sometimes forget to put oil back into the car
