2.0 or 1.8 help

:
439 MSP Ebony Mica
a while ago I blew my engine on my msp...i replaced it with a new protege engine...the problem is...i have been in korea for a year now and i cannot remember whether i bought a 2.0 or a 1.8...i want to order a cai but this is presenting an issue to me....i remember what the engine looks like so my question is from a top down view is there a visual diffrence to a 1.8 motor and a 2.0 or do i have to wait till i get home.....and when i do get home where would i look on the engine to find out which one it is

Huh? MSP engines are 2.0 liter. If you replaced it with a stocker, then it's 2.0. If you put in a 1.8, then you did a lot of extra work. I am having a hard time understanding how you do not remember. The CAI comes right off of the turbo, so one that is designed for a NA 1.8 would not work. Actually, one designed for an NA 2.0 would not work either.

i had it done last year right before i came to korea thats why i cant remember....but since you said it would take alot of work the mechanic probably would have told me it was a hard ass job but he said the hardest thing was putting the turbo back on it.....well you have eased my mind alot thanks

but the cai i want to buy is made for a regular 2.0 not the msp engine so it should work anyway right?

visually, on the 2.0 the oil cap is on the right side, closer to the tranny
on the 1.8, is closer to the cams, left side(passanger side)

thanks alot thats the answer i was looking for (first)

The MSP block is the same as the P5 and the 2.0 protege. Basically it just has a turbo setup added to same motor. Therefore, if you put in a stock 2.0 protege engine (fs), then you basically put the same thing back in. Unless you removed the turbo setup, it would be the same. The reason a NA intake will not fit right is because the intake has to be connected straight to the turbo, not the throttle body. If you removed the turbo setup for some reason, then the CAI for the regular protege should work.

so i then i could try a msp intake instead? dont want to be annoying about the subject but i want to mod my car too

PEOPLE!!! this is not that difficult!

the actual engine for the MSP and the normal sedan(01-03) is the exact same FS-DE. the difference comes in when talking about add-ons. for example, if you have a turbo you cannot use the ES/LX intakes. likewise if you are not turbo'd you cannot use the MSP intake.

i'm assuming that if you blew your engine you replaced it with the same thing, which since this was an MSP, would be the 2.0. i doubt that you would have ordered a 1.8 unless you REALLY messed up somewhere. if you did by some crazy ass mix up order a 1.8 you will have some issue getting everything lined back up and all put back together, but either way as long as the turbo goes back on, you want the MSP intake.

does that answer the question?
