2.0 conversion to 1.8 Coil Packs

Cool, that makes it easier to look for...

So I need a 1.8L valve cover with the cam position sensor...98-99 ok?

no, 99-00 only

for the 626, you want either a 97 or a 98 and up. (i can't remember when they started using the cam sensor on those)

Convert to megasquirt and you don't even need that cam position sensor (it's used for sequential injection, which megasquirt doesn't handle right now). just puttin that out there, though it's much more of a hassle :P

Since non-oem 2.0 coilpacks are nearly impossible to come by now (at anything less than like $150 each), I foresee a lot more people doing this.

LOL - That'd be something...very expensive...I'd rather get the valve cover...thanks!

Thanks for the H/U anyway...I am thinking of getting a piggyback...E-manage...but have to get other stuff dealt with first.

will the AEM delete the cam position sensor? anyway to get away with NOT using the cam position sensor with the AEM?

as long as it has the bung on the front for the cam angle sensor - i can't remember when the 626 started using those....

2.3L??? WTF motor was that?
I have no idea. I found it off of car-part.com locally. website said 2.0L. i emailed and asked if it was still available and they said yes 2.3L (dunno)

Anyone notice that up until recently, most ppl doing this mod were Pro5's (I'm basing this after reading the few good threads on this subject)? Any reason why they were more interested in doing this VS the sedans? I figure it's a coincidence, but I was interested in knowing if there is a reason or not...

You were the first sedan who was interested according to the other threads I read...you were pretty much THE exception i was talking about, since most others (except for my fellow MP3'er Topher who I believe started it all) have only talked about doing it...

$90 for the coil and wires from our local Napa store.

Does anyone have this setup installed with the MSP or DG valve cover?

so basically all i need to do this is a set of 1.8l coils from a 2000 protege along with the bracket thing, and i'll also need a set of 1.8l spark plugs? Also topher, is the ignition on this protege set up to the stock setup?

awesome! i was just comparing my p5's setup to that of one that had the conversion done and i understand exactly what i have to do. I still don't know if those are the right things listed above though. the coils are from a 2000 and the plug wires from the same year model, correct? as for the valve cover i'll get it with time. its not a necessity, just something to tie everything together and make it look nicer.
