1993 Mazda MX-3
I just got a Mazda MX-3 for free I am going to use it as a project car. I wanna Know what I can do to a 4 cyilender 1.6L motor to make it faster? Or What you think I can do to make a bigger motor. Thanks for your help! Kenny_G

If you had a 6cyl I would say swap in the motor I have...2.5L KLDE, but the 4 to 6 cyl swap is a bit harder, you'd have to find a donor MX-3 and MX-6/Probe

Since your MX-3 started life as 4 banger I would not recommend the v6 swap as it gets fairly complicated. If you are up for a challenge though go for it.

I would rather recommend the BPT or B6T swap.

just my .02

I would stick with the 4 cylinder as well. There are a wide range of options available for swaps.

The EFI system used in the 1993 1.6 models is very close to the 1.8 DOHC systems used in the 90-94 Protege.

You could also BPT swap it.

We have a header which will be available in a few months for the 1.6 model Mx3.

We will have the 1.6 headers ready to go the second week of November. We will get them listed on the site and I will make a post here when they are ready.

I would go BPT in a heartbeat. Most of the systems in the engine bay are compatible with the turbo motor and you can get a whole lot more power from the turbo when you do a cost vs HP comparison against the KL-ZE engine.

thanks for the update. time to save up some money haha. what kind of material is being used on the headers and is it going to be headers designed for turbo or NA cars?

The header is t304 stainless steel. It is not a turbo header.

Boost + weight reduction.

yeah i think a new engine would be in order for kenny gs car. the engine can handle good boost but it would need internal work for it to handle high boost pressures. How much work are u looking to put into it kenny? and thanks for the info corksport
