Hello everyone, I apologise if this is a long read.
I have a 1992 2.0L Mazda 626 and require some help with my car. I have tried google searching but it's hard to find the answers on a car this old.
Anyway I'll begin:
Also I plan to change the transmission fluid soon and just wondering what fluid to use. Nulon website recommends Fully Synthetic 75W-90 GL-5 but I've been told to be careful with using GL-5 as it may not be compatible and my manual doesn't state anything, just the capacity to use in L. Is GL-5 OK to use as it doesn't seem any store sells GL-4, and if I can't get a hold of Fully Synthetic is Semi Synthetic OK to use? I've also been recommended to use G70 lubrication.
Getting ready to go on a long distant trip and need the car to be in good working order. Took it on a 2000+km journey last year and everything went fine but didn't have these problems before and mechanic said all everything was in working order and sensors were fine. Thinking of taking it to the mechanics again to make sure all the sensors are working properly.
Thanks in advanced.

Anyway I'll begin:
- My car revs up and down on it's own. It's completely random and doesn't always happen. When it stops revving it either sits too high (1500-2000RPM) or normal idle (below 1000RPM). From my research people are suggesting a vacuum leak. Is there any way I can find this? I've tried listening but couldn't hear any sucking sounds. Someone recommended spraying carb cleaner. Any thoughts?
- My temperature gauge is fluctuating. When I first noticed I took it home and took the radiator cap off to see if it had sufficient coolant. It spilled from the top and was warm and not hot. I've also noticed my heater isn't as hot as it used to be and takes a very long time to heat up. My research suggest I need to replace the thermostat. Any thoughts?
- I've noticed two different types of puddles under the car. One under the gearbox and the other under the sump. The one under the gearbox is yellow and has a slightly strong smell. Recently had clutch replaced and it was the same smell as the fluid which leaked afterwards. I'm guessing busted seal? The other is a more clear colour and has a weak unknown smell. It's not the engine oil, power steering fluid or radiator coolant. I have a slight oil leak so perhaps water mixing with the slight leak?
