1950 Chevy Truck

It makes me happy when new pics are posted in this thread (2thumbs)

Me too! Also makes me smile when people comment when new pictures are added. :D

Speaking of:

Gordon (friend with a 74 Nova) and I were working on the hot-rod in the garage at another friend's (Bev's) house today.

(Bev has a 1929 Model A Sedan Delivery and a 67 corvette. She also has a lift in her garage.)

The Chevy has an oil leak from sitting too long while under construction. With the Route 66 fun run car show coming up next month I needed to fix these leaks.

The front seal is leaking and its leaking at the back of the intake manifold.

We cleaned up all the sludge from underneath the truck and pinpointed exactly where it was leaking. I got all new gaskets today. Tomorrow we'll pull the motor apart and fix all the leaks.

We also installed some chrome door trim around the cut out on the fan shroud.

Today we replaced the oil pan gasket to fix the leak at the front seal. We also worked on cleaning all the sprayed oil from the leak.

Here are more pictures from the shop. The motorhome, 1929 Model A delivery, 1967 Corvette (1 of 22 made) and the Cobra belong to Bev. This is her garage next to her house. The drag race Jeep with the NOS injected 440 belongs to a friend of hers. The 1974 Nova belongs to Gordon.

good grief.....I don't know what "Bev" does for a living...but sign me up!

Do you know if the cobra is an original or kit car? My uncle has an original (inherited no less....lucky son of a....) and those cars are sweet!

Bev's late husband owned a construction company for many years. Bev is in her 60's. The Cobra is an original. The Corvette is 1 of 22 ever made by GM with that combination of accesories. 390 horse 427 V8, convertable, automatic, A/C and an am/Fm radio. Both the Cobra & Vette are 100% original numbers matching.

Today, I pulled the intake manifold off the Chevy and cleaned it up. Painted the Bowtie :chevy: blue. Installed new gaskets and chainged the oil & antifreeze. I had to make a parts run for antifreeze since the truck was all apart I was forced to take the 67 Stingray.

Then entered the truck in an evening classic carshow at the Prescott Valley Sonic. All in a days work.

Awesome, me and my dad are getting closer to the idea of buying an old truck. Going to be a little bit longer, but maybe some time this year.

Today I scrubbed my upper A arms and shock tower to remove 30 years of road grime from the 1978 Mustang II suspension.

After removing years of road grime and grease I sanded down the parts to remove any paint and surface rust from the 30 year old pieces of metal.

I also sanded and cleaned my calipers.

Then I painted my A-arms gloss black and painted the calipers a metalic red.

This is what it looked like when I started.

Never heard of it. Since this has been a west coast truck it is pretty much rust free. No body cancer just some surface rust here and there.

Here is a video of the truck from this last weekend.

Today some friends and I entered a local cancer charity carshow.

I was in the rat rod, Gordon drove the 1929 Model A Delivery (powered by Chevy) and Tom was in his 70 Nova with the 468 Rat motor.

Tom won best 70's car and I won best under construction.

Below is a little info about the Charity carshow followed by pictures.

SpringFest has something for everyone!

In an effort to lure even more families and vendors, the fifth annual Chino Valley SpringFest will reintroduce a couple of added twists later this month.

The popular, free-admission town festival on May 31 will not only expand to the more spacious Chino Valley Aquatic Center multipurpose fields at 1525 N. Road 1 East, which are situated several hundred yards away from the fest's 2007 perch at a small Community Center Park athletic field.

It also will welcome automobile enthusiasts for the SpringFest Car Show.

When the festival began several years ago, organizers situated the event on the 12-acre aquatic center fields, complete with a car show.

That was not the case this past year.

"Basically, the whole Community Center Park complex is going to be filled with vendors and tents," Chino Valley Aquatic Center director Jason Kelly said of SpringFest, which is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and wrap up at 7 p.m. on the 31st. "Being on the new facility, we expect the event to grow in volume all the way around."

Registration for the car show will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. that Saturday before leading into a six-hour event concluding at 4 p.m.

Parks and Rec, the Chino Valley Rotary Club and Prudential Northern Arizona Real Estate are sponsoring the show.

Organizers plan to give away goody bags and T-shirts to the first 150 cars to arrive. Door prizes, music and food also will be available.

Each of the car show's participants pays an entry fee of $10, plus a can of food. Entry proceeds go to benefit the "Sunshine Kids," a nationwide, Houston-based charity for cancer-stricken children, while the Chino Valley Food Bank receives the non-perishable food items.

At the end of April, I ordered a big brake kit from Speedway Motors for the Mustang II front end on my Chevy. The 9 inch rotors that were designed by Ford to stop a little Mustang II were not cutting it with this big ole fat fendered Chevy truck.

I told Speedway that I had a Mustang II front with a Chevy bolt pattern. They sent me a big brake kit with a FORD bolt pattern. GRRR!

So I sent everything back and waited another week and a half. Keep in mind that I already paid for this kit in advance when I ordered it. So 8 days later UPS leaves a note that I have two COD packages that I need to pay for. Excuse me? I'm not paying for the brake kit a second time. Send it back.

So I call speedway. They say, they sent me a refund check. Well its not here. A week later the refund check arrives. So Speedway sends me yet another big brake kit and it arrives a week later COD.

Its now June and I finally have everything ( so I think) My friend Gordon and I start taking everything apart on the Chevy. We clean up everything and do some painting to make it look all nice and purdy. I noticed the brake hoses were cracked and brittle so we get some new hoses for a 78 Mustang II.

Get back to the house and finish re assembly. We went to put the new races in the rotor and noticed that there was a set already installed. Cool extra parts for later. We put on the rotor and the spindle was 1/4th of an inch too short. We couldn't get the spindle nut on. Six weeks of messing with getting the parts and now they are the wrong parts again.

So we went around to some machine shops to see if they could mill the rotor down until it fit on the spindle. No such luck and I'm out of time on my days off. Put this off for another week.

In the mean time I call Speedway Motors back and ask them about why the rotors won't fit on my spindles. They told me that I have to remove the races that they installed and re install the extra races supplied with the kit. So I call Gordon and tell him. Sure enough that fixes the problem. My question is why did they install the wrong races in the first place? Why don't they send instructions with the kit that would tell you to remove the races that they installed?

So my truck is sitting in Gordon's drive way on jack stands blocking his garage so now his 1974 SOA Nova has to sit outside. Gordon calls me at work to tell me the new hoses are too short. The hoses for the Mustang II won't reach the hard lines on the frame and the new Chevy calipers require a banjo bolt where the ford calipers didn't.. So he ordered Chevy brake lines for me. They were even cheaper. Until he got them home and found out that they were also too short.

Back to the parts store. Gordon ordered the extra long 18" brake lines. They were over twice the price. So they come in the next day. I get off at noon on Wednesdays and start my 3 day weekends. So I head to Gordon's house. We start to finish the brakes and the banjo bolt won't fit in the hole of the brake line. GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!
So we go over to Integrity Motorsports ( A restoration and performance shop). They said they could mill out the brass end to match the banjo bolt but he had three cars to finish up Wednesday night for the show this weekend. He said drop them off and he'd hone them out after work and I could pick them up in the morning.

So Thursday morning I pick up my modified brake lines and they are perfect. Go over to Gordon's house and put the truck back together with out issue. Bleed the brakes and down the road I go.

First ordered the big brakes on 4/25/08 and finished them on 6/12/08. Got to love getting the wrong parts from suppliers.

Take Care,

Bill

new'er Harley Davidson tail lights on the truck

I pulled the HD tail lights off my 1971 chopper when I added some custom bullet ones a while back. These old ones were sitting in a box in my garage. So I pulled off the autozone plastic cheapy ones and replaced them with chrome Harley Davidson ones.
