1950 Chevy Truck

hey man, you know I started looking at trucks - I dont think I am going to do it for awhile but I was looking at a really nice 64 ford, a bit different than what you got but eh

The truck was the featured vehicle on www.theautolog.com today

The driver's door window had a crack in it. There was a rock chip in the driver side front window.

We have 100% glass coverage with 0 deductable.

So Bill called the insurance Co and made an appointment for a new door window and a chip repair. We have new weatherstripping for the front windows. So Bill asked how much to replace the weatherstripping while the truck was in the shop. They quoted him $40. Fair enough.

The glass shop pulled out the broken door glass and cut a new piece of glass.

After that was done they pulled out the weatherstriping and repaired the rock chip.

When they went to put in the second windshield it broke on the drivers side.

CRAP

Well the glass that was in the windshield was clear. All they had in the shop was the smoked. The Manager couldn't just put in one smoked and leave the other one clear. So he replaced both front windshields.

When Bill asked for the bill for new windshield glass and weatherstripping instalation The manager said it was too much fun working on a truck that was older than him by 2 years. Its free. Have a nice day and take care of this old rig. She'll treat ya good!

On the way home Bill stopped by my parents house and they gave us two recliners. So here is a picture of the hot rod actually hauling a load down the highway.

Looking good man! I really would like to see it painted up like the little toy truck personally. I hope you guys addressed the rust on the window seals as they were out.

Absolutely no rust in the window sills.

That wasn't rust. It was Orange paint. The original paint was Orange on the out side and metalic green on the inside. The truck Originated in L.A. in July of 1950 and was a fleet truck for CAL-TRANS.

The only rust on the truck is under the fenders and at the head of the bed. Other than that the truck is rust free.

truck is looking good, and im glad to see its still functional too!

so i guess that smoked glass for the windshield is legal out there in arizona?

The glass is actually more of a greenish laminate. It was standard equipment on the truck in 1950 so DMV can kiss my @$$.

Legally in AZ I can 5% limo tint the back window and do 32% on both door windows. Additional tint will be added. I plan on adding 20% tint on the rear window and 32% on the doors anyway.

My Mazda has Limo tint down the sides of it and I'm 100% legal.

ah orange paint would explain why it looked like rust.

this truck would look so hot in red. With the wood in the bed beside the red strips and walls would just be awesome.

You have no Idea how many people paint old trucks red. I'm going to paint it silver over laser blue. I just have to be different.

thank you! While the red with wood is a hot look, it's been done over and over again. When are you painting her?
I just applied on line for a second job as hospital security. This fall I plan on taking intro to autobody repair and paint at the local college. So I'll work two jobs until fall semester starts. Put the money from the 2nd job into parts for the truck. Then paint it when I take advanced autobody & paint in the spring.

So to answer your question. Spring of 2009.

Here are some better pictures.

Original green paint under inside weatherstripping. Lots of dust but no rust.

You are far more patient than me. =) I'm actually really interested in taking some classes at our community college just to learn more about cars...5 grad school classes keep me busy now, but in the future I think it's be a good investment.
