Anyone with a Protege or P5 with 18" wheels, post up your pics. Thinking about getting some 18's for my next set of wheels, and want to see how it looks. A bit worried that the 18's may look too big for the Protege.

you have to use a pretty small tire to run 18's, but I love the way it looks.

While i do love my 18's, and I'm going to keep them, 17's are a better choice. With a tire as small as you have to run (215/35/18) there is ALOT you have to worry about.

Do you have any suspension mods? I ask as sometimes it isn't easy to tell by pics. Tossing it over and over in my head about getting some 18's, I know I am insane, but.... However I really don't want to drop it and not sure what the gap would look like.....so if you are stock height it is a great visual for me.

Thanks

what are the cons of getting 18" rims on the P5?

BENT rims!!! We can only run a 235/35/18 tire or as some call it a 'rubberband'. Of course this will depend greatly on the roads in your area.

Also I would say the tire limitations as far as replacements. Not too many of them out there (from what I have seen, I have been known to be wrong though). Also tire price. I have priced stock size tires at $63 per to the 18's at $83 (Kumho Ecsta AST in 205/50/16 and 215/35/18). Cheapest 18 I could find. Others run at or over the $100 mark.

ive bent two wheels on my 17s! and i drove very cautious. you cant avoid pot holes on roads your not familare with. your bound to hit a good size pot hole some time. and ive seen too many bent wheels and blown out tires when you get down to 35 series 18's. to me, the risk just isnt worth it, IMO

Alright thanks....now back to trying to make a decision.

Sorry to threadjack again (but it is related to the topic :) ) Question for all of you running the 215/35/18's......how did the change from your stockers change your gas mileage? My commute is approx 40 miles round trip and at close to $3 a gallon I don't want to lose too much. Thanks.....threadjack over
