17X7 with +40mm 205/40/17

I've read the fitment recipe but want a few more opinons.

I currently have 17" konig holes 205/40/17; lowered w/ H&R and have no problems (+45mm offset)

Just want to hear what owners of 17X7 +40mm wheels with 205/40/17 tires have experianced.

Does rubbing occur when you have one passenger in the front or when there is a full car load of ppl? (i'm assuming it only rubs in the rear)

How bad does it rub, does it leave groves in the tires?

the reason I ask is because there are a lot of wheels I like that only come in a 40mm offset and I do not want to roll my fenders and i also rearly have ppl sitting in the back.

thanks a lot guys!

You will rub with people in the back, but +40 is pretty close to what Rishie recommends (with +42 "barely" making it). Over time it will mess up your tires... I don't think you would have to roll your fenders very much for it to work though.

My opinion is that it would rub on bumpy roads or agressive driving with people in the back. On smooth roads and easy driving you'd be OK. By yourself you'd 'generally' be OK (just an occasional rub on big bumps).

That's just my opinion based on my own experiences -- I'm running +40 offset rims with a 205/55/16, which are about 1.5 inches bigger than the tire you're planning on running and my experience has basically been what I described above. Through 4 1/2 months (5500 miles) my tires look fine with the occasional rubbing but I don't know how the wheel wells look - I'll find out once the weather warms up.

I have Motegi MR12(40 offset) with 205/40/17 on my 2001LX sedan with MP3 springs . I had the car loaded with 4 adults and gear for a week in Florida last year ,i have no rubbing problems at all.

The back of the sedan sheet metal is wider across the inside of the rear fender lips.
You shouldn't have problems with a 40mm offset; it's extremely tight with the P5.

Thank you gino. That is correct, the fitment recipe has been designed for the wagons which have less front spacing than the sedans in the rear.

Much appreciate those of you who completely understand my recipe. It's a lot to absorb but I greatly appreciate the comradery displayed here.

Peace, Rishie

I would not recommend it. 2mm seems minor but it's not in this situation.

i have 40 offset and that size tire and i have had no rubbing at all even with 3 passengers and all our paintball stuff in the back. im lowered on eibach.

Thx, Kymp. I've got a set of ADR Battles on the way amd I'm mounting Goodyear F1 GDs.
Add Eibach Perfs as my spring choice. It looks as if I might have a go.

Rishie, a tip of the hat for your input, too.
