16 minute transmission fluid change

I have changed mine twice and expected bad ness because i raced the car alot and had missed third more then once. The stuff was clean i saw no glitter or discloration after my second change. I have used redline mt-90 and its needs some warm up but i have been pleased. But i do not drive car in winters either.
I disagree that if it looks bad its ok. That could be a sign of more serious problems later, But i am a worrier! ha! Glad you found the correct socket dont forget to tilt the car a bit raising the passnger side higher. I also left my drain open and ran about a half cup through to help push out the old stuff.

Hey Eric, I only rec'd the breakerbar because of its smaller head size, and the proximity to the LCA
a deepwall socket would be very tight in there

My only experience doing this is draining and replacing the fluid in T5 trans in Mustangs. Every time I did it the stuff looked like metallic paint because the trans was used, and the synchros are brass. They wear and the bits of brass in the fluid are reportedly normal. Same thing with a T56 I did as I recall ( T3550 same thing ).

Anyway, I could be totally wrong with this car and the fluid will be/ should be clean but we'll see Weds.
I have the Motorcraft fluid and an appointment and I'm ready to go. Synthetic will go in both the crankcase and the trans and I'll be ready for spring.

By the way, Ford says this stuff is FFL or Fill For Life meaning you should never have to change it again from what I recall.
It's expensive as hell so I hope that's the case.

I think you are right about trans fluid changes. I changed mine early to Redline because i did not care for stock feel. I changed the next time just to see what it looked like after 60k or so of abuse. Mine was fine. I have been a Royal purple fan for motor oil for years and i run heavier than stock weight do to pure summer driving and am concerned about heat breakdown more than cold starts. But whichever oil you choose synthetic os best for a modern engine build imo.
One thing to consider on turbo cars is oil dilution. They all get some blow by which compromises oil quality. So oil changes should be more frequent than with all motor cars.
This is just my semi educated opinion of course haha! Let us know how the Trans fluid looked and of course any difference in shifter feel or synchro noise! I have solid mount at rear and can hear trans whine a little which i like. not like dog cut but still...

stupid question here:
when you say to "replace" drain plug and fill plug; you mean just put them back right? there is no need to buy new ones as well, like the drain plug washer during oil changes is there?

i just put them back in and no issues like weeping or any thing. : )
