get a rx-8 and throw a turbo on it as soon as you can, you wont be dissapointed.
hummm... could you post atleast 1 thread where this has been accomplished ????

yeah, same as jersey said...:bs:

if you want to run 12s easy buy an STi and do some small mods. I've seen a local guy run a 13.1 with just a catback...

If you want to do some serious deep 12s and spend a little more get an evo with a big ass turbo and go to town...

forget the RX8, just forget it ;)

both HKS and GReddy have been working on RX8 kits for a long time now

well after reading all the comments and seeing the "rotary revolution" dvd from Best Motoring, the rx-8 in a baseline test along side cars like the Honda S2000, ITR, WRX STi, Nissan G35 Skyline, and a Miata. The RX-8 only stayed in front of the Miata, just because it lacked the power. But every other car passed the rx-8. I know you guys weren't talking about track performance, but I think it is an important thing to point out, seeing as how, the "RX" series of cars, were meant to attack the track and corners. I'm a huge Mazda fan, I own two of them, but I just don't think the rx-8 measures up to the performance of it's previous siblings. Some of you were right, it's just for looks. Consider this, my '88 GTU could potentially be faster than an rx-8 in the trim i have it in now. All i've got is a racing beat header, no cats, and apex-i cat-back exhaust. (in otherwords it's straight pipe from the header) Just don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to H8 on anyone. Just giving my opinion.

theres also a best motoring with the rx8 a-spec kicking the s*** out of all those cars, theres ones with the s2000 kicking everyones asses then in the next its in dead last.

best motoring videos are terrible judgements of cars.

i'd put the EVO on the top of the list, then the 350Z or G35, the WRX/STI or RX-8 come in a close last. if i do get the subaru though the first few things i'd get is an equal length header... can't stand the "rumble", sounds like misfiring to me (notcool)

HKS and GReddy do have turbo kits already out or being developed but of course they'll be "conservative" kits.

It's been mentioned already, but if you want a drag car- go with the sti or evo- great cars but built for a different purpose. The 8 is a well balanced, near perfect 50/50 weight distribution car for attacking the corners- it all depends on what you want

I appreciate everyone's input and these are all things I thought about.

RX-8
Best looking (inside and out) only car with leather
Best handling
Slowest
Not as big in the MOD dept

I can get a fully loaded on for about $26,000, no navi

Evo
Like the exterior but the interior looks like ALL crappy Lancers (sits high).
Handles very well
Way faster than RX-8
Huge in MODs

Have to pay full price for this one $30,000, get the RS for around $27,000

WRX Sti
Hate the exterior, interior isn't too bad
Handles fairly well
Fastest of the bunch in a straight line
Lots of MODs

$33,000!

I'm looking to spend between 25-30 and this will be a daily driver in Chicago (some snow). I was really hoping people would be pulling for the RX-8 but it is just so hard to MOD. I'll probably end up getting the EVO in the next couple of months or a Hi-boost kit for the P5 and hold out for the Skyline. A P5 pushing 20psi should be somewhere in the 12s right?

Juan runs low 13s/high 12s on 20psi in his protege5. keep in mind you'll need forged rods for that kind of hard running.

the mods are coming for the rx-8, believe me. I'm working in this industry and searching day to day for modifications to this car and the companies are working on them. There will be PLENTY of support for this vehicle in good time.

The 8 however is not a car I would reccomend for snow--- AWD is where you wanna go for snow/ice-

if your interested my g/f is selling her moded 350z right now..
10k miles .. and priced below the base new 350z's
it has about 6 grand in mods.
pm me if your interested...

If you really like the STi and the Evo, why don't you pick up a used one and save a couple grand? I know it's not possible to know exactly what's been done to it, but you definitely can find some clean examples of the 2003 Evolution for about $24k (one in Dallas, I know of for that price w/ only 11k miles) and I looked up STi's the other day and they're in the same range as your RX-8. Also I checked out the R32, which feels a little faster than an 8 and has AWD. I've driven 2 R32s and 2 RX-8s and have always enjoyed the VW more. To me, everything about the RX-8 is sorta boring... like the handling is there (almost too good for street driving), but it just didn't feel exciting without some forced induction torque to back it up. The R32 is pretty powerful and n/a, but needs to get some weight reduction or also forced induction to get down the road with STi like speeds (that HPA Stage II kit reviewed in MT is capable of supercar performance).

Anyway, I hear a lot of talk on all the boards on these same cars. I'm glad nobody has brought up the SRT-4. Either way, "Do it. Do it!" It's like buying a Gixxer vs. R6 vs. CBR600RR ... either one is still going to be an awesome ride, but I understand that each cars nuances will make all the difference. If it were my dollars, I'd be getting a slightly preowned R32.

2 cents

did i read that right?? the sti and evo are also "made for the corners", they're not drag cars. just for most people that's the only type of racing they do (drag racing). one of the local subaru dealers here encourages drivers to do lapping session race days at the local track here but they really discourage them from drag racing. go figure because people put so much abuse on the driveline, it's not meant for drag racing and hard launches.

fast straight line for cheap = Fox body coupe. You could be in the 12's for about 10k with a new motor to boot. take the other 18'k and get a used wrx for the daily driver or hell just get a used RS or something thats AWD for the snow. if anyone really wants to race just bust out the rustang.

they werent meant to doesnt mean they cant. I know there is one EVO8 running 9s and several STIs in the 10s.

as soon as u can meaning when one comes out. I should have worded it different. My bad(braindead

The point being not that they are built just for drag, but if you want straight up acceleration- these two would be better choices. Look at the numbers- on paper, you have a rx 8 that pulls a 14.49 in the quarter from the factory, and the evo does it in 13.4- not detracting rom the evo or sti- I mean good god! the evo and sti are incredible cars- but so is the 8

I dont know how it works in your state, or your dealers. But here in NY, any sign of abuse on an EVO, and warranty voided. So many people are breaking the trannies on their evos, and having dealers void their warranty, citing abuse.

My friend actually had a tranny broken, only the 3rd time he had autox his evo, which from day to day, is babied. Dealer refused to cover it under warranty.
