-1 Sizing for Autocross Weekends

Is anyone running 14" x 6" wheels?

I was reading through the 2014 SCCA Solo rules for H Street and saw that going up or down 1" in wheel size was allowed. I'm not finding a whole lot in the 15" x 6" size and wondering if 14" might be the way to go. I'd likely be putting Dirreza ZII tires on and using the set for autocross only (maybe a spirited summer drive here and there), but I'd hate to get everything set up only to find that they don't fit on my car.

I'm just getting started with autocross, but my last runs destroyed the stock Yokohamas. I wouldn't want to put all seasons through that again.

I run 14x6 steelies during the winter (now) and don't rub of have any clearance problems. Though, they are mighty close to the caliper, so I think it'd also be dependent on offset and wheel design.

I've though about this also, but I think you'd be limited in choices to run size wise in the 14". But hollow spoke and even base 14" Miata wheels are everywhere for $100 a set.

I am running 14 X 6 wheels from my Miata on mine and there are no issues at all. If anything be like me and use the stock 15's for autocrossing and then use the 14s for daily driving. There are more tire options for the 15" wheels which is why I do it what way.

Miata 14" BBS fit and only weigh 8.5lbs. I run these with Direzzzas on the street and track with no issues.

wouldn't smaller size wheels mess up the final drive ratio? I could be way off here but i think it would cause your redline speeds to be messed up. You can safely stay in second gear for almost every course because it doesn't redline until ~58mph. If you put 14" wheels it would redline earlier, dont know the exact number but shfiting up the third and then having to downshift back to second wouldn't be very fun.

The tire diameter is what effects the gearing not the wheels. You run a larger sidewall on the 14" 185/60/14 for mine.
