I know I'm a bit late on chiming in on this but if you are going turbo stay with the 2.0L it is a stroker motor which make WAY better turbo power. The 1.8L does have a smoother powerband and does make more torque actually i have mine up to about 143 whp at the moment and torque to spare with my NA setup BUT the same 1.8L with the BEGI turbo at 5 psi only made 125 whp which a MP3 owner here has done better than that with just bolt ons and some custom cams. The Rod ratio in the 1.8L FP makes it a much better canidate for NA power just like the 1.6L B16B is a better canidate for NA power in hondas I think but go turbo and the stroker motor of the newer proteges makes much much more power than NA. just my .02 from my experience with the 1.8L FP motor and the 2.0L FS motor.
