1.8 engine swap for the P5 ???

I know I'm a bit late on chiming in on this but if you are going turbo stay with the 2.0L it is a stroker motor which make WAY better turbo power. The 1.8L does have a smoother powerband and does make more torque actually i have mine up to about 143 whp at the moment and torque to spare with my NA setup BUT the same 1.8L with the BEGI turbo at 5 psi only made 125 whp which a MP3 owner here has done better than that with just bolt ons and some custom cams. The Rod ratio in the 1.8L FP makes it a much better canidate for NA power just like the 1.6L B16B is a better canidate for NA power in hondas I think but go turbo and the stroker motor of the newer proteges makes much much more power than NA. just my .02 from my experience with the 1.8L FP motor and the 2.0L FS motor.

he is talking about the 1.8 FP engine from the 99-00 proteges, not the BP, not the 1.8T (wehre did ya'll get that idea from...there is a BPT 1.8 turbo engine that the other person was hinting at).

And yeah, apparently the FP engine is smoother running than the FS. swapping it would be easy as hell.

Well if you want the engine I can check with my shop and see where they have mine at. They have been keeping it for me since I installed the FS-ZE. I never really wanted to sell it but I may. Just let me know.

Yea I forgot to mention the kit includes intake and a muffer. No big deal...

Some choose to change the intercooler but most don't unless they get really crazy with the boost.

The turbo on the 1.8T is rated somewhere around the mid-200's I believe, so there is still plenty of room.

There is no 1.8T 225 hp Audi TT. That engine is twin turbo. Comparing the TT to a 1.8T is apples and oranges. The TT has the same engine but is twin turbo. There are also some small internal mods I believe. I was under the impression it had margionally less lag the the 1.8T, which is what VW was trying to accomplish, and if it does have lag the cause can't be comparable to a single turbo engine. I seem to remember hearing that the TT actually had very good driveabilty....

The 1.8T engine is not rated to run in the "mid 200's" with the stock turbo, it can be chipped to about 215 CRANK hp, not WHEEL hp. in order to get to the TT's 225 hp the 1.8T has a forged crankshaft (as opposed to cast) and stronger rods. it also uses a larger (single) turbo and the lag is more noticeable than in the cars with a K03 (like my sold A4). You can get aftermarket kits that will run at 300 or so crank hp.

There are kits that boost anywhere from 200 to 240 hp that pretty much only modify boost and fuel delivery. I haven't heard of any chipped 1.8T motors blowing recently, so I assume it's pretty safe.
