2008.5 MS3
hello everyone,

im a new member but have been looking at this forum for awhile now. i have a 2008.5 MS3. i enjoy it so far but have been making plans to make it faster. Numerous websites put the MS3 running a stock 14.2 on the 1/4 mile. my goal is to get in the mid/high 13's without any major mods (bigger turbo, FMIC, downpipe, midpipe, ect...) basically anything that will crush my warranty.
so far Ive purchased and installed an ingen CAI, and my future plans consist of

MS- Catback exhaust
summer-performance tires
cobb short shifter
cobb stage two susp. lowering springs

im not quite sure that this will get me where i want (13.8 or below) but Im hoping it will make a difference from what ive got so far

any other ideas? or changes to what i am considering would be greatly appreciated.
thanks for reading

and please put what you have on your car as well as any 1/4 or 0-60 numbers as well

What you have on what now can void your warranty by the way. Basically anything you add on to your car that isn't factory and or install by the factory (Mazda) then your warranty is in question. Talk to your service manager and ask what their position is on modifying cars.

1/4 times... Stock it's capable of 14flat@ 101, maybe a little better. Of course this is highly dependent on the driver. You can have a s*** load of modifications and not break 14 if you can’t drive worth a s***. This said a Speed3 with Intake has been proven capable of running 13.6-13.9 w / decent driver.

MS Cat back exhaust doesn't add power, you buy it for the exhaust note ($729.00) yeah no thanks. Oh and the speed3 comes with ultra high performance summer tires already.

Yeah anything can potentially void your warranty. My advice would be to do what I do. Stick to bolt on mods that are easy to remove / replace. This way you can swap for dealer visits. Here are a few cheap / easy mods.

CAI(which you already have)
Test pipe (good gains from this, very easy install).
New top mount intercooler (easy to install / good gains)
BPV

With those 4 and good driving you should be in the 13's no prob. The catback exhaust sounds nice but the gains really are not much. Its expensive and I would recommend getting the new intercooler before the exhaust if your going for power. The tiny test pipe will make more a difference than the entire catback.

You can also install a short shifter, shifter bushings, rear engine mount. All those are nice to have and reversible. The SS was a REAL pain in the rear for me to install. Lots of hard to reach clips and cheap screws. Stripped a bolt which took me hours to fix. Rear engine mount makes such a big difference though and its very easy to install.

You really don't think the MS CBE adds power? I thought it sounded pretty decent at least. I might wait for Cobb or go for that new twin tip exhaust

^^^^why??? the twin tip exhaust is not going to give u any more power. and a cbe on this car barily adds power not worth 400-??? bucks for a cbe. our stock exhaust is 2.5 inches mandrel bent. its a nice piece and does not need to be upgraded to make good power....

if you want to get some lower times with out power mods you will

1.learn to drive a car at the track.
2.some good rubber.

Gotta agree with AAMguy, CBE = little hp / price
EDIT: oh btw, you may want to upgrade your rear MM

Actually I just took my speed back to the track for the second time. I am by no means good at launching this thing. My best run of the day was 14.2 with my COBB SRI as my only power mod. Oh and my reaction time was HORRIBLE on this one, I know :)

Oh yeah, car 22 right lane

i appreciate your help guys. i understood the cbe doesn't do much. that was just on the list of future mods. same goes with the short shifter. i will look into all the suggestions you guys said.

ps AAMguy i realized that after i sent it out. sorry

what in the world would make u think this would go in the ms3 appearance section....

Im not trying to be a didck, but Im just wondering why this is in the appearance section.

Try the disable boost cut trick for 1st and 2nd gear, I imagine you could get some better times if your kept her on the virge of wheel spin. Good luck.

Ouch viper that 1/4 hurts me :). Rev to 4k and drop the clutch ! thats it . . .

I launched at 2500 in hopes that it would be better. I am going to have to try that next time I'm there.

What's the boost cut trick in first and second?

the CBE does make a little difference. It is mostly noise though. I'm still glad I bought mine. Gives the car the sound it should have came with.

he just wants his car to "APPEAR" fast, haha. i kid i kid

Speaking of which on the way to class I saw a riced out old corolla. He had a very weird looking exhaust. It wasnt very loud and im not sure what the purpose was. Looked like it had a HUGE cat and a tiny end pipe. Anway as I passed he must have had over 10 guages in that car. . . I wonder if it was even turbocharged. With all the money he put into those guages he could have prob bought a turbo lol.

i think im going to add a test pipe, tmic, rear mm, and continue getting the lowering springs and short shifter. i think this will put me where i want... maybe lower.
anyone have any guesses of what i would run after i install these parts? keep in mind i have the CAI already.
