'09 or '10 Mazdaspeed 3

well, i dont street race so i dont really care about wtf pwning people. but most people that spend extra money on the nicer version would like people to know this. you may like the fact that its a sleeper but are you the majority??
i dont think so.

if you look around, the cars the MS3 competes with flaunt thier stuff. if your trying to market your car to the people who are buying Sti's, Evo's, CSRT4's then you have to cater to that crowd.

And does that mean you have to catch every cops eye when you drive around...yes a majority of the community does like the fact that there are no boy ricer flags all over the car. I just think if it stayed low key it might draw a better crowd. Lots of ms3 owners are not in the youth bracket. And no i dont streetrace, i go to the track. I would just get tired of everytime I take the car out some Civic or Evo or Subie wanted to race me. Buddy of mine complains of that all the time, even though his car is retarded fast. just not worth it

The MS3 is the alternative to boy racer cars such as the STI.

For a lot of (mature) people, it's all about the driving experience and the practicality. If someone notices my car, it is of no benefit to me whatsoever.

Why would you want stupid kids that want to race, vandals, police, etc. to notice your car?

i never get hit up for races, only 1 person tried to race me in my MS3, it was a scion and i didnt even waste my time. i currently drive a Evo X and no one has tried to race me yet(ive only had it for about a month). we will see what happens.

Hey some people like certain art and some don't. Designing automobiles is no different. Personally I'd rather have a designer from Mazda trying to push the envelope over a Toyota Designer being derivative.

Some of you guys just seem to want a box on wheels.

I can see your point. Some people want something that's different.

For example, those that bought the Pontiac Aztek must have liked it.

LOL. I never get any people who want to race me in this car. Not even STi or Evo peeps...and theres tons of them here in Vegas

I'm going to say wait for the 2010 after my test drives this weekend that is the conclusion I came to. The new car is much better insulated, quieter, stiffer chassis, much better interior and once the speed3 motor and suspension improvements are dropped in I would expect the new speed3 to be a much better car overall. The new car will probably be a tick slower because its heavier but in day to day driving it will be negligible.

Also the 2010 hatchbacks look good in person, the smiley and tail lights are crap but other than that the car is pretty good looking. The first gen's look better but its definately a livable look on the new car. In addition the only ones that seem to dislike the new ones are us enthusiasts...I know several poeple with mazda3's and every one fo them (except a guy I know with a speed) lusts after the new ones. So we may think its ugly but reality may not bear out our opinions of the vehicle.

My opinion is wait, but you really should arrange to test drive a 2010 hatch yourself and judge the interior improvements and chassis improvements.

That is exactly why I like 1st gen. under the radar. why the hell do you have to announce to the world "look at me im fast". much more fun to leave someone with the WTF face after he gets pwnd

Exactly! I love sleepers. My CBM MS3 rarely gets a second glance except from those "in the know". My car has received a few complements but I bought it to drive- not to garner attention from onlookers. Best of all, the cops tend to ignore it as well...(wrc)

In my neck of the woods I always seem to get challenged by rednecks in domestic pickups. Go figure. That said, last weekend I gave a 1969 SS Chevelle fits, but that's another story...(rlaugh)

I like the sleeper aspect of the current car. When I had the RX8 I hated having dumbasses rev their engines at me at stoplights. What's worse is that people go out of their way to drive disrespectfully around you if you're in a "sports" car, doing s*** to try to get you upset just so you'll do sink to their level and get aggressive. Only ever had the cops follow me in the 8 once, but it still sucks to know you're getting profiled.

3 or 4 years down the road I may get a Gen2 MS3 for a daily driver and then mod the hell out of this one for my "fun" car, provided I can find somewhere to drive it the way it's meant to be driven.

That stung...

Now the Pontiac Aztek was not an exercise in forward thinking design. IMO it was an attempt at GM to come out with something shockingly different while trying to save money and use every crappy part from the GM parts bin.

The Aztek was a still birth that looks bad from EVERY angle. Sure the 3 has some polarizing design details but it's apparent a lot of time and skill went into it. And to me it's decidely euro/peugot look is sexy, while the Aztek---isn't.

'09 FTW.

i'm so glad i jumped on one after i saw the new 2010...

i must say, they look better in person, but i can't get used to that grin....

Well, this is down the drain. Fiancee totaled her car, that was covered by liability, so I had to fork over my savings for my new car to get her a car. Boo. I'll try again in 6 months.

Sorry to hear that!

In any case if you're going to be on the market in 6 months I think you should use the time in between to try to arrange a test drive of both of them. For shure the interior of the 10 is going to seem nicer than the one of the current gen, but seeing them in person is probably the best way to make up your mind about which one you like best.

Also, consider that there maybe some incentives on the 09 if the dealership still has them in stock when the 2010s arrive, they might want to get rid of them ASAP and you could put yourself in a very nice position.

Good luck!

That's me-2-a-t.
Just got my brand new 09 MS3 July 6th. They had a 2010 3 on the showroom next to the MS3 I bought. I must say the clown grin did nothing for me.
I've been driving trucks around for the last 21 years and just wanted a spirited drive that didn't attract the wrong kind of attention.
